News had gotten around about the McDonald’s new limited time-only offering which they had launched in conjunction with the National Day celebrations this year — we had been pretty stoked since the various media outlets were posting about it; after all, the Nasi Lemak Burger is probably one of our favourite limited time-only offerings during this season. In this year’s rendition of the Nasi Lemak Burger, McDonald’s have claimed that the item comes with a new and improved recipe from the last rendition — for those whom are looking to have the Nasi Lemak Burger as well as all the limited time-only offerings for this season to come alongside with it, the Nasi Lemak Burger Feast is the one to go for. The Nasi Lemak Burger Feast sees the Nasi Lemak Burger being paired with Potato Wedges, the Cocoa-nut Pie (which we had written about some time back), and small Coke Zero that one can swop with any other beverages available at the outlet, and at a top-up if need be.
There really isn’t much that is changed with the Nasi Lemak Burger that is served up this time round in terms of its composition — the burger still comes with that all-familiar semolina bun, a fried chicken patty, fried egg, onions, cucumbers and sambal; the only change that most seemed to have mentioned would be on the fried chicken patty itself. Taking a bite into the Nasi Lemak Burger, there is no denying in how the Nasi Lemak Burger replicates the dish that it is intended to mirror — the familiar sweet-ish and savoury notes of the sambal comes through and compliments the other elements such as the onions, cucumbers and the fried chicken patty perfectly. The sambal also came with a lightly spicy kick; nothing too fiery, though definitely quite evident. We recalled that there was a slight hint of coconut milk-richness coming within the fried chicken patty in the last rendition of the Nasi Lemak Burger, creating that Lemak feel — something which we felt was pretty genius and still baffles us even when we think about it today; the fried chicken patty that comes with the Nasi Lemak Burger now definitely comes with a crispier patty than the last rendition while the “Lemak” factor had also increased in this one. The Semolina Bun’s fluffiness, soft fried egg that is almost akin to the ones served with the Breakfast McMuffin, crunch of the cucumber slices and soft bite of the fried onions all came together well with the crispness of the fried chicken patty. Needless to say, this current rendition of the Nasi Lemak Burger is certainly a slight notch above the previous — still one of our favourite McDonald’s limited time-only creations during the National Day season!
