We could detect the all-too-familiar scent of durian even before popping these gorgeous delights into our mouths! Albeit not in a bad way; the cloying aroma merely lingered about each piece and wasn’t overwhelming in the least. In fact, it’s interesting how covertly Wan Hao has dressed this dessert, unlike other blatantly bombastic durian treats that scream “EAT ME, I’M MADE OF DURIAN!!!” whether in terms of appearance, smell or taste.
Upon biting through the crisp batter, one can immediately taste and feel the authenticity of the durian used. The hot flesh is sweet, creamy, and most importantly, fibrous which attests to the presence of real durian pulp. I really savoured every bite & nibble, though in my honest opinion, each piece could’ve done with more durian! But that’s just my greed speaking 😂
