Piled high with assorted tempura - sweet pumpkin (my favourite), crunchy French beans, mushroom, chicken, squid, crab stick, baby corn, and shrimps; Kohaku’s tendon is pretty substantial.

With a choice of their much talked-about spicy version, I had to bring my dad along to Tempura Kohaku for a taste test. He was quite impressed with the portion and the variety (but once again he felt that there was no kick). I, being my adventurous-self, had a bite of his and DIED. The familiar flavours of the sweet-savory tendon sauce were gone and in its place was just a fiery kick to my tastebuds. So unfortunately, it’s not my thing… I shall just stick to the usual one.But you can’t help comparing, if you have previously tried Ginza Itsuki.

Served in yet another beautiful porcelain bowl, I found that the main difference apart from the ingredients used was that the batter at Kohaku was slightly heavier. However, that doesn’t make the bowl any less satisfying and comforting.
