Rarely get the chance to eat WHEAT on campus or in the west (hear that WHEAT? Please set up in NUS!) so I jumped at the chance to get a bowl for lunch today. For the regular bowl, you get to pick 1 base, 1 protein, 4 toppings and 1 sauce. I got the cold soba noodles, teriyaki chicken thigh (130g), scrambled egg whites, shimeji mushroom, roasted pumpkin, corn kernels and Japanese sesame dressing.

The soba noodles don’t have much taste on its own but they’re pretty good when mixed with the sesame dressing. The noodles didn’t clump together which was a good thing! The chicken thigh wasn’t the most tender but it wasn’t tough either. Might have been better with stronger and more teriyaki seasoning sauce. The toppings were my favourite. I couldn’t pick from all the choices at first! I love the scrambled egg white option as I’m not a fan of yolks, and when I cook by myself at home I don’t know what to do with the yolks if I just made egg whites. The shimeji mushrooms and corn kernels are stir fried and slightly savoury. Very nice to go with the noodles. The pumpkin turned out to be my favourite topping. Texture wise, it was soft but not to the extent of mushiness, and in terms of flavour, the pumpkin was really sweet.

As with most of these bowls, they’re served cold. Wish there was an option to pop them in a microwave for a while as the cold teriyaki chicken wasn’t super appetising. And I can imagine how awesome the warm roasted pumpkin would be! Still a yummy and healthy bowl with tons of options nonetheless :)
