Did not know what this was, but it came recommended by their waitress. So luffa resembles zucchini, but it’s amazing at soaking up zhap! And when the zhap is as good as this was, you don’t need to tell me to eat my veggies. 😂
Think a really good white bee boon gravy, and this melon-like sponge that has soaked all of it in. A very comforting and homely dish that I would love to have with a bowl of rice.
Homely is the word I’d describe the newly opened Shao 烧 along Frankel. The food is actually pretty good; we loved their stir-fried luffa with egg and prawns and their dry hor fun that was packed with wok hei.
While we loved their zi char items, their signature crab was just... ok? It was really fresh and the head was jammed full of roe, but the bbq left certain parts a little dry and the seasoning was lackluster (I blame Happy Crab Xtra for spoiling all other bbq crabs for me). I wouldn’t mind coming back for a simple comforting meal, but might not order the more expensive seafood again unless I’m in the mood to splurge.
