Grilled Pork Jowl

Yay what a pleasant surprise. The fried rice is pretty tasteless on its own but the furikake nori and chives on the side salvaged it. The star of the show, the pork jowl, was pretty tender. Esp loved the slight crisp on the pork and the sweet and savoury glaze(which goes so well with the rice as well). Guess everything is in accordance with catering to the office crowd, it's a really light meal from the non-greasy pork to the fried rice nothing is overly unctuous.

Btw maybe just today but the ice water tasted q bad lol

Grilled Pork Jowl rice bowl @marusgdinebar served with onsen egg, wafu sauce, furikake and fried rice. This is one very satisfying rice bowl with tender pieces of pork jowl grilled well and a generous serving of japanese fried rice.

Recently making it into the list of Burpple’s hot 100, this looked like the perfect lunch spot to try something new. @marusgdinebar serves up fusion food that’s largely japanese-influenced. I had the grilled pork jowl rice bowl which was served with a very large portion of fried rice then topped with onsen egg and furikake. Pork jowl was definitely done well with a good ratio of fat and meat and a really tender and juicy bite. Surprisingly, the fried rice, though tasted good, was just a bit too much and was out of proportion with the amount of pork jowl served. Remember to flash the Burpple app for a 15% discount!

Yes, yes it is pricey BUT you get these beautiful melt-in-your-mouth-tender pork jowl atop fragrant slightly garlicky fried rice, served with furikake, wafu sauce and onsen egg!

I don't know how Chef Samuel does it but he makes a mean pork jowl. Full of flavour, juicy, with the right amount of balance between fatty parts and lean parts, this was truly a delight!

4 munchies: One of the best pork jowl dishes I’ve ever eaten, the slightly charred strips of meat were grilled to tender perfection with crisp texture. The tofu purée might be light and smooth, but I’d have preferred it served as a dip on the side as there was too much purée doused on the flavourful pork. Thankfully, the mentaiko and Vietnamese-infused sauce enhanced the smokiness of the hog with savoury and fiery flavours! #Burpproved

This was a hosted meal by Maru; many thanks to Burpple for the kind invitation!

This new addition to Icon Village is perfect for a fun lunch in the CBD. Don't be put off by the fancy decor — Burppler Jonathan Teo attests to Maru's very reasonable prices. Inspired by the cuisines of Japan, Vietnam and America, the cooking is bold and creative, and absolutely tasty. The Burpple community is really loving the Grilled Pork Jowl ($18) and Spicy Fried Minced Pork ($13) so far. The former turns out super tender pork slicked in wafu sauce and atop rice, while the latter is glazed with fish sauce and spicy miso, and served with springy noodles. Add a squeeze of lime for a good pop of flavour.

This new 2-week old spot in Icon Village is really surprising. Although the decor might look like it’s more suited for dinner, they turn out superb lunch bowls like this. The pork is so darn tender, and the rice is very flavourful!
