Braised Duck Rice

$3.50 · 11 Reviews

The fan favourite at Serangoon Garden is known for its tender and succulent Braised Duck Rice.

You can tell a stall is doing it right when the queues are snaking long throughout the day, and customers are willing to wait even in rush hours.

The regular portion of Duck Rice at $3.50 is quite quite its priced, while you can top up with other ingredients such as braised pork, pig head meat, pig tongue, pig ear, braised egg, tau pok and cabbage.

What people like would be the nostalgic Teochew flavours of tender duck pieces, paired well with the white rice drizzled with braising sauce.

No regrets, as we missed the flavours of this braised duck rice so much. Very tender duck meat, and that killer ‘zup’ sauce which was drenched all over our rice. Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!

Be prepared to join the longest queue at serangoon gardens food centre if you want to feast on Ah Seng’s Braised Duck Rice! Get your orders right in your mind before it’s your turn as they have no time to wait for you to decide when it’s your turn. Wanting to make the 40mins queuing worth the while, I basically ordered the duck rice and the pig’s stomach soup. Duck was done pretty well (though not worth the long wait as I’ve had better) but it was also that piping hot bowl of peppery pig’s stomach soup that completed the experience and made this feel like a complete meal. Would i queue again? Yes, but only if I am in the area.

Imagine real good chicken rice kuay juiciness but it's the lovely flavor of duck.. 😋

Just queue la. Worth your time one.

Known for its long queue on weekend mornings, Ah Seng Braised Duck Rice (Unit 01-44) serves perhaps one of the juiciest yet softest braised duck I've had in awhile.

Whenever I have braised duck, I'm always afraid of how chewy it'll become, especially if you've left it out for quite some time. But even after our short photo taking spree, the meat was still succulent and juicy.

Apart from that, the taupok and tau gua soaked up the braised duck sauce so well, I could just have the plate of meat and tofu on its own without rice. They also drizzle a generous scoop of sauce over the rice, allowing you to indulge and slurp up the sauce altogether.

The star of Ah Seng Braised Duck Rice ($3.5 for 1 pax) for me would be that dark braised sauce. It is salty and savoury with a slight hint of herbal taste that is perfectly soaked up by the duck meat. The lean meat is tender and not dry at all, with a thin layer of fats running through the top. With an excellent braising sauce, it's definitely worthwhile to add on other ingredients like the taupok, taugwa and egg ($1.6). #BurppleBestofSerangoonGarden

I practically grew up with this. Distinctively remember having Ah Seng braised duck after ballet classes at then nearby CC, with my family. Imagine the ever young hungry Monster practically swallowed the whole duck, cause she whacked at least 3 classes back-to-back. Back then the Market and food centre was dark, dirty and very dingy. But that didn't stop us from having our Favourite braised duck. Fast forward to present times, this stall never change. No frills, unapologetic mess of savoury dark sauce over everything. The meat is still so tender, and have the whole duck boneless is simply a bonus. Cause who wants the whole hassle to biting through the bones and spitting it out. But for those who loves doing that, don't worry, for the wings and drumsticks are with the bones. So get down and messy. Don't even get me started on the oh-so-peppery pig stomach soup (not in the picture), think white pepper Bak Kut Teh, except filled to the brim clean pig stomach slices. And anything inside, the stall serve them up mean but clean. No funky smell, or residue for they know how to prepare their innards well.

The tofu so soft yet firm 😍 Queue started after me! #chompchomp #serangoongardens #ahsengbraisedduckrice #onlythebest #burpple #hungrygowhere #sgfood #duckrice
