Dined with a group of 4. Sharing 3 mains with 2 sides each.
It was a rather small restaurant, but with a very cosy yet charming interior. Feels like a classy American diner with a Gatsby charm to it.
We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Nashville Hot Chicken, and about every side dish they had. The first two mains were pretty tasty. Freshly fried and juicy, but not too greasy. Nashville was a miss though. It was sweet yet savoury, but not in a good way that we enjoyed.
We really enjoyed the mash potatoes and mac & cheese. Coleslaw wasn't too heavily drenched in sauce too.
We wanted to try the No Frills Cheeseburger, as it look really good on our neighbouring tables, but we were too stuffed.
Overall, great casual place for catchup with friends! It was rather quiet on a Friday night, but it was still rather new then. They do accept reservations anyway, so why not? (:
Went back for this for the second time! This place is truly a gem with good food and service 👍🏻 Even the sides are equally awesome, especially the Mac n' Cheese!
The star of the dish was seriously the mac and cheese. Cheesy, creamy yet not jelat- one of the few mac and cheeses which have found the right balance. Steak was alright, gravy was solid, coleslaw packed a crunch. Sadly the soggy batter on the outside didn't do it for me. Other than that a great dish though!
One Night Only's Chicken Fried Steak is really something to behold — though entirely something else to eat. Was really excited to down this huge meal after being tipped off on Instagram and headed down with a huge appetite. Yet impressive as this looks, the thick, biscuit-like breading with a 3:1 ratio to meat was, to me, quite unpleasant. Ripping those apart left me with just a thin slice of meat 😩 Gravy may have been it's only saving grace, but that little pool of gravy was way too little to last past the first few bites!
Nashville Hot Chicken ($19.50)
Being all greedy, I figured why not pay $3 more for the 3pc option instead of the 2pc @ $16.50? You'll appreciate this if you are really famished but otherwise, it is massive! I believe the chicken here is more filling due to the crispy cookie texture batter used to deepfry their chicken. Overall, this dish from @onenightonly.sg was good. It was not overly greasy and the spicy coating definitely gave it more flavour that its buttermilk counterpart. I would personally pick this over their deepfried wagyu steak cos it is still best to deepfry chicken over other meats! The mac & cheese side was also very yummy!
Tip: inform the service staff on whether you prefer the breast or the thigh parts for your chicken so that you do not end up disappointed😋!
Chicken-fried Steak ($21)
This is my first. A slab of wagyu treated like a piece of chicken, deepfried till golden brown. @onenightonly.sg specializes in deepfried food. It would have been my very own fried food haven except that I'm not exactly a fan of the southern fried chicken style batter that veers towards the cookie texture crust. Nevertheless, I was impressed that this steak though deepfried, maintained its moisture and was not dry at all. You'll definitely want to share this thoughas ths portion is huge!
Enjoy the best of American diner food here at One Night Only, located at the junction of River Valley Road and Zion Road. The menu sees a good selection of American comfort food and the setting is laidback and comfortable — it's a nice hangout if you live around the area, or if you are looking for a place to line the tummy before hitting the clubs. Get the Chicken-Fried Steak ($21) and the Nashville Hot Chicken (from $16.50 for two pieces, plus two sides). Unlike what its name suggests, the former is actually a deep-fried, battered piece of wagyu steak, while the latter pleases with a biscuit-like batter and juicy chicken. Do as Burppler Dex Neo advises and choose the mac 'n' cheese and onion rings for your sides. If you enjoy breakfast for dinner, you'll love their all-day breakfast plates that include Classic Buttermilk Pancakes ($9.50) and Build Your Own Breakfast (items priced between $3 to $6). Now this caught our attention. Not chicken, but a thin cut of wagyu deep fried in their batter and topped off with their uhmazing but light cheese sauce.
Interestingly, the steak was tender but not juicy. While overall quite tasty and value-for-money, it was quite hard to finish due to the sheer size of it. 👊 I really would have liked to find out more about that sauce though which seemed to be the same as the cheese in the Mac 'N' Cheese.
