Where the lemon was devoid of any meringue, Carpenter and Cook’s petite passionfruit tart had all of that on it. Their Passionfruit Meringue Tart was admittedly not my favourite or anyone else’s at the table. We all agreed that the combination of the sweet, tropical passionfruit and the torched meringue seemed a little senseless. They weren’t complementary elements, but rather additive — both were sweet to different degrees. Hence, there wasn’t any real complexity or heights to its taste. 🧐
You’re better off trying their other things like their Lemon Meringue Tart which I tried alongside this. The Passionfruit Meringue Tart didn’t come cheap either - it was $5 at least for something that’s a fraction of the size of a saucer. 😨 (6.1/10)
I’ve read many good reviews on the passion fruit meringue tart.. however me being a chocolate lover still prefer the Chocolate sea salt caramel tart😜
Passionfruit Meringue Tart and Lemon Tart
Creamy, smooth and tangy, both were packed with flavour. The near-crumbly pastry base also created a nice contrast with the soft tart filling! A strong burst of lemony flavour, the citrus-y curd was truly satisfying but sightly on the sweeter side for me after I got passed the initial zesty punch. Topped with appealing fluffy torched whipped meringue, the tropical Passionfruit Tart was my pick for the day as it struck a great balance between sweetness and tartness.
Utterly refreshing, I enjoyed the lingering hints of zingy aftertaste left by the treats!
The Mac and cheese quiche is quite special, the crust is the croissant kind, while the filling is fluffy and eggy with pieces of macaroni. Strawberry shortcake is very good! The whipped cream is so light and I think the sweetness level is perfect! The passion fruit meringue tart is good too, perfect balance of tart and sweet. Skip the croissant, it wasn't flaky and was rather stale.
Wanted to go for their Passionfruit Tart but it's just so hard to not order this seeing it on display. This wasn't too bad, considering how aromatic the Earl Grey was and there was just enough sugar glazing to help add a good amount of sweetness to the cake. Texturally it was a wee bit dry; just a wee bit, perhaps from aired our in the display for a while. Overall, still pretty decent.
Spider sense was tingling like mad upon the first bite of the Lemon Cream "Queen of Hearts" Tart ($6.50). Such an apt name which I think this tart might have already stolen many hearts away. Many have recommended the Passionfruit Tart but the Lemon tart definitely "stole" the night this time round. Wanted to check out The Udders Pancake but was too full from dinner. Saw carpenter and cook so went in for coffee. Couldn't resists ordering the passionfruit tart...though full, but this was good! Sweet and sour...made me wanting for more...
The passion fruit meringue tart is a must try, together with a pot of earl grey tea, this will definitely make a good tea time at this beautiful cafe. The quiche is also worth a try for those who prefer a savory taste.
