A taste of tradition at this old-school stall in Maxwell Food Centre, with the current 2nd-generation owners set to retire in March 2022.
.
For over 60 years, the family has been serving handmade Hokkien style 5 spice pork liver rolls, moist and tender and crisp with a robust meaty earthy mineral bitter savoury salty flavour.
.
The soft sweet potato cakes have lovely vegetal earthy sweet flavour, while the chewy guan chang / Chinese marinated lean pork sausages has addictive meaty savoury sweet flavour.
.
Also loved the bouncy tofu beancurd with grainy sweet flavour, and the robust chili dipping sauce with its sharp savoury spicy kick.
.
Everything is served in an assortment set meal, making it easy to decide. Paired with hot fresh fried bee hoon / vermicelli noodles, so yummy.

They are selling their 60 years generations recipe for $1mil if anyone interested😉 one of the rare heritage item is the guan chang (pink Hokkien sausage) and they are also one of only two stalls left in Singapore that sell Hokkien-style ngoh hiang which all requires hours of preparation! Their bee Hoon is damn delicious and addictive too!😋 their side sauces are these starchy sweet sauce and watery chilli sauce and savory braised meat sauce which I have never tasted or tried something like that in other hawker stalls😍 lucky I got to tried it once at least ( thought they were winding up March this year). Hopefully someone would preserve their recipe for future hawker generations🥰
This stall was in spotlight recently after they announced their retirement next year and planning to sell their recipe for S$1 million.
So make sure you make your way down to taste it before they sell out and retire.
They offer a few sets for you to choose, in case you couldn’t decide what to order. Or else ala-carte is welcome here.
Every set comes with a plate of beehoon to accompany your ngoh hiang, with sweet and spicy condiment.
Seems like a popular choice amongst patrons at Maxwell.
The traditional crispy egg cake and the fishballs were faultness but the bee Hoon was pretty disappointing and so was the chilli . Both were too sweet and missed the mark of a good traditional kind of savoury bee Hoon and the heat expected from the chilli .
Set D (S$8.80)
1 piece of everything + 2 bee hoon (S$0.70)
Mom felt the items had been refried too many times. Kind of dried up.

The only open at 11am (or even noon) and close relatively early at 7pm, but they serve the most unusual and probably yummiest handmade ngoh hiang in Singapore.
