Have been hearing quite a fair bit about Bonjour Ma Cuisine on social media for a while — for those whom are unaware, Bonjour Ma Cuisine is a concept by the same rolled behind Ma Cuisine; Ma Cuisine has been in operations at Craig Road for quite some time. Ma Cuisine has earned its Michelin star in 2024, being a One Star dining establishment. Whilst Ma Cuisine is a French establishment that only operates in the evenings, this has also created the opportunity for Bonjour Ma Cuisine to run its operations during the mornings and lunch hours — Bonjour Ma Cuisine operates on weekdays from 8am to 2:30pm. The interior of the shophouse is decked in an especially chic setting that one would expect for a French bistro; there is a sense of modernity amidst the rustic decor that features the use of wooden furniture and fittings with the use of red as its main colour scheme amidst the white walls of the space. True to its evening operations of a gastro wine bar, there is a vast display of wine bottles throughout the entire space as well. There are mix of booth seatings, proper dining tables and high tables and chairs that cater to different group sizes and their varying preferences — outdoor seating by the patio can also be found within the premises as well. The food menu at Bonjour by Ma Cuisine is segregated into several sections; there are categories which are dedicated to Savory, The Bad Habits (i.e. pastry and desserts) and Cheeses; beverage options will include wines, hot chocolate, espresso-based specialty coffee and tea.

One of the items that has been recommended quite a fair bit over social media would have been the Croque Madame Truffe; a similar item that is being recommended in their menu however is the Croque Monsieur Truffe. The Croque Madame Truffe is described to be an item that comprises of elements such as Truffle Crispy Sando and Sunny Side Up Egg; the Croque Monsieur Truffe would be the version of the Croque Madame Truffe that comes without the egg. As the namesake of the dish suggests, the Croque Madame Truffe is a Croque Madame dish; this also means that the Croque Madame Truffe also comes with ham and cheese sandwiched in the middle of the toast. Whilst the typical Croque Madame from other establishments tend to feature a thicker slice of toast, it is well noted that the Croque Madame Truffe at Bonjour Ma Cuisine comes feature toast that is sliced thin; the consistency being pretty similar to that of how some establishments such as Bao Er Cafe / Treasure Toast do their version of the Hainanese-style Kaya & Butter Toast. This results in the toast being especially crisp and crusty; all that whilst being held together by gooey, melted cheese with the slice of ham adding to the savouriness of the dish. The sunny side-up comes with an egg yolk that features a orange hue; molten and flowy when one pokes through it with the fork and knife, while the egg whites came soft — all that without any undesirable stench of overused oil. Whilst this was portioned a little smaller than most other Croque Madame out there, this version also proved to be one that is pretty darn delicious as well.

During our visit, we also managed to give the Creme Caramel a go; this came in a portion size of two (2) pieces that also seem to make the dish fairly easy to share especially for those whom are more conscious about having others dig into the same portion of food as them. The menu does not really describe much about the Creme Caramel apart from describing it as “Caramel Pudding” — the presentation of the dish is also to no surprise since this was essentially just pudding doused in caramel. That being said, the Creme Caramel still manages to impress with how the pudding is suitably dense; smooth to slice through, while there is a creamy and eggy note that one can detected within the pudding as well. One can observe black specs of vanilla beans within the caramel that was doused above the pudding; this added a fragrant hit of vanilla to the sweet caramel that was in itself a classic flavour combination to the pudding that was easy to love. We also went for the Cafe American which is essentially their variant of the Americano. This was quite a heavy-bodied cuppa that carried pretty fruity notes — quite a good morning perk-me-up.

Despite not being their main operation, it does seem that the folks at Ma Cuisine had put in quite a fair bit of effort in curating the menu for its Bonjour by Ma Maison operation — the menu at Bonjour by Ma Maison is still considered to be pretty large despite the short hours of operations which also features not only breakfast / brunch dishes but also that of mains and entrees that are suitable to go for as a lunch option; whatever that we had tried was just a small selection of what they have to offer. Based on the dishes that we had tried, it does seem that Bonjour by Ma Cuisine is a worthy extension to what Ma Cuisine has to offer — perhaps a slightly more accessible version with dishes and flavours made to appeal to the masses that gives an introductory experience to what one can expect out of the Michelin-starred Ma Cuisine where quality and consistency are involved that would bring more interest to the Ma Cuisine brand eventually.
