Iron Lady Kakigori

Back here for my favourite kakigori at the moment, the "tie guan yin" tea kakigori. Serving with taro ball, boba, cincao and jelly pearl.

The tea gave a nice fragrant with the not too sweet sugar level, pairing very well with the topping. Taro ball and bubble serve on the side to retain the perfect texture instead of placing on the kakigori that harden the texture.

Underneath the shaved ice, the jelly pearl surprised me with the nice crunchy and lighter texture compare to traditional boba.

Perfect dessert to share on a hot afternoon.

Taglined as - serving happiness, one bowl at a time, Aftermeal Desserts pride themselves for their signature, soft and chewy, handcrafted Taro Mochi, made fresh, in house, everyday.  The Iron Lady Milk Tea Kakigori (RM22.00) was the most popular dessert here, made from a premium blend of tie guan yin and milk - not too milk nor too sweet.  If you like grass jelly, the Classic Grass Jelly (RM16.00) is a must try. For a hot dessert, choose the Bentong Ginger Soup with Black Sesame Glutinous Rice Ball (RM16.00). I thought they did a great job with all the mochi here - the rice balls were sticky, nicely done and had a good balance of sweet and slightly bitter flavors. The taro mochi was served with peanut brittles, giving it an even more toothsome texture. I'd easily choose this over the pearls. My favorite would be the Classic Calamansi Yokan (RM16). The dessert came beautifully layed with calamansi yokan, chewy white pearls, longan, and topped with a slice of lemon. Underneath, calamansi infused shaved ice with sea coconut. This was definitely a refreshing treat - sweet and ever so lightly sour. I like this - a lot.

With tea-flavoured item on the menu, it's a no-brainer to us - ordered the kakigori with something has to do with iron tea lady (*cough* ain't a professional food blogger)(RM20) but sister thought it's oolong tea. Oh well, at least it didn't run far from its tea family. We enjoyed the shaved ice a lot, do not get fooled by its coarse-looking ice, it's very soft and melty. We were caught by surprised to taste grass jelly and brown sugar bubble underneath the snow mountain! 🌨 However, the same positive review cannot be applied on the taro and sweet potato balls...

Perfect dessert to share on a hot afternoon

Kakigori has became the fab desserts that everyone loves to have during a hot summers day! This smooth cloud texture shaved ice dessert originates from Japan that was introduced in the 11th century made for the wealthy! This shaved ice dessert is rather similar to our Malaysian favourite ABC ice kacang that has the same concept of shaved ice that is being flavoured with vibrant colours of syrup, coconut milk and assorted toppings ranging from sweet corns to stewed red beans..
The latest addition of the Kakigori flavour would be the Iron Lady Tea from the After Meal dessert in Uptown. For me personally this is a refreshing take on the Kakigori by infusing Chinese tea into it considering the Japanese would include Matcha into it. This Kakigori (RM20) from After Meal is really amazing as the texture of the shaved ice is really fine, fluffy texture that is similar to a texture of the snow and the flavour of the Iron Lady tea wasn’t over powering as they managed to fine tune the balance between the floral notes, smokey taste and the sweetness from the chewy brown sugar pearls and the stewed red beans! This was truly enjoyable to have on a hot day! The taste and texture evolves gradually in every spoonful and it was just a joy to have it after a heavy dinner!

Fine and evenly flavoured ice! Not too sweet. Enjoyed this a lot even after a really heavy meal. The bowl with a bigger base definitely saves me from the stress of toppling this mountain of goodness!
