Way too full from lunch at Beerthai House so had a starter as a main. Burrata at an Italian restaurant is an obvious first pick -- this version is unusual because it is served on a bed of eggplant instead of the usual freshly sliced tomatoes, resulting in a stronger taste but very satisfying.

Came here to try the famed Panama Esmeralda Geisha but beans are only roasted on order, and a half-pound of roasted beans costs $180 so we tried the Maragogype on their recommendation. I found the taste very savory -- very faintly reminiscent of chicken essence or Marmite. I'm not sure I would have it again but definitely an unusual experience worth having. We were treated to a complimentary shot of their house blend espresso which I enjoyed very much because of its smooth mouth yet strong character. I will be back!

Second time back here just for this dish -- totally worth it. Intense flavors coming together with squid smothered in sour and spicy and garlicky sauce on a bed of salted egg white 😋 Recommend! The rest of the usual Thai fare like green curry and tom yam were nothing to shout about.

Pretty heavy dish which didn't manage to keep my tastebuds interested till the finish.

Sweet but would leave off the matcha balls next time as it didn't pair well with the other ingredients...

Wiping mentaiko off the plate with crumbly bits of charcoal bun -- super sinful. Of course this dish tastes good but it doesn't take much culinary skill...

Same time, same place. I tried my best not to jump to conclusions too quickly, but in the end my vote still goes to 黑. Even before I managed to shove the spoon into my mouth, I could smell the rich chocolaty goodness... 黑 also has a slight truffle-like bite to it, which is really satisfying.

Tub of Swiss chocolate ice cream at 2am is pretty decadent, even by my standards. Sara surprised me by leaving me a tub of Mövenpick ice cream in the freezer after our debate about the best chocolate ice cream we've ever tasted. This is my first time having Mövenpick ice cream of any flavor (cue: fake shocked gasps) and I found it enjoyable but on the sweet side. This is an unusual charge for me to level at ice cream because I usually complain about ice cream not being (1) creamy enough, and (2) sweet enough. However, I like my chocolate ice cream to be rich and dark and mysterious... So now I need to introduce Sara to Awfully Chocolate's 黑 (and reacquaint myself as well), pronto.

This bowl of seafood gravy rice is seriously comfort food heaven for me. The gravy is very flavorful and the seafood is sweet. Must have the awesome green chili sauce too! I only found out about it when a friend had this while we were having lunch together. It's hidden away in a corner such that there's no chance of finding this place accidentally -- you have to know it's there to be able to find it! I've always auto piloted my way there and now I regret because I don't know what it's called...

I used to feel super guilty about getting the laksa soup because I need that spicy kick when I have my yong tau foo fix, but my new favorite way of having yong tau foo is adding the sambal chili paste to the dry preparation. More kick, (slightly) less guilt! 😋

Hands down Jewel makes the best cup of V60 Yirgacheffe. My favorite cup of coffee.

Star of the night!! I almost gave this a miss but so glad I didn't because it was popping with fresh fruity flavor. Mint brought out the tartness, and the meringue was on point with melt-in-your-mouth goodness and just a hint of sweetness to balance out the flavors.
