Decent Jap Buffet Went for lunch on a weekday, $36.90++. Go for the paper hotpot and black pepper beef. The dessert plate was fun! For dessert, their cakes and warabi mochis were good.

Japanese Weekend Lunch Buffet had jap buffet for lunch tdy (don’t usually post pictures of buffet bc like idk how to plate food nicely hahaha but the dessert platter came out pretty cute so why not 😅) the food itself was pretty alright i guess but shoutout to the black pepper beef and the bean sprout egg stir fry these two dishes were bomb that stood out from the rest i literally had like 10 helpings!! (+ they had flavored detox water too which was kinda cool) in pict is just some of the desserts cuz i only bothered plating and taking photo of my first round hahaha but overall it was quite impressive the cakes were soft and fluffy (plus points to decent frosting/filling that were not cheap cream) + the chocolate in all the desserts (including the chocolate fondue YES THERE WAS ONE) were of good quality they were thick and creamy w no artificial taste :-) the biscuity stuff/cream puffs were fresh and the creme brûlée and ice cream were flavourful (some buffet places they r like too icy or diluted — i loved the mocha one so much they had lil choc chips in them for texture too) OH lastly the mochis omg super good it was so soft and smooth it literally glides down r throat and the matcha/soybean powder is super legit (obvly a dessert person hahahahaha ok stopping myself here)

Where Do We Begin... PRICE: Salmon Don $20 (Thank goodness for 1-for-1) WAITING TIME: 5 minutes max on a Friday mid-afternoon (we were the only two customers in the restaurant) NOTES: - I sincerely hope no one pays the full price of $20 here for 6 slices of salmon, two tablespoons of ikura, and half a bowl of rice. Really. Not. Worth. It. - Salmon didn't taste exactly fresh - Not sure why a proper full-fledged Japanese restaurant that charges GST and service charge provides its customers disposable wooden chopsticks instead of proper chopsticks WILL WE RETURN? Highly unlikely

Azuki And Vanilla Taiyaki ($4.90) Probably came from a ready-made frozen pack, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad! I liked how the icy vanilla ice cream felt against the firmer and denser swirls of azuki. Furthermore, the thin layer of chocolate separating filling from wafer was a nice touch!

Onsen Tamago ($2.50) The last time I had this was at some hot spring village in Japan, where exactly I’ve forgotten. The sauce wasn’t as authentic as I’d have liked, but the egg itself was certainly well done. Whites were soft and quivery, encapsulating a gelatinous yolk that oozed out slowly upon it being popped. Worth it for the price!

Usagi ¥400 Vanilla softee cone with a rabbit wafer. Great for a sunny spring day on the mountaintop! Taste: 3/5

Pan Seared Salmon | $14.80 Always have a fear of ordering salmon when I’m out as some places will tend to overcook them making it hard and dry to finish. However, this was done just right. Juicy yet tender together with the japanese fried rice and fried egg. Indeed a value meal!

Keto Beef burger I was much excited to try the newest addition to the menu. The result came out a bit underwhelmed. The buns were decent, smooth, soft and absorbed some of the meat juice. It was a bit dry and less fluffy than usual buns. The patty was meaty and juicy although quite salty. The burger looked fairly small compared with a standard size. The price tag of 18.80++, making the dish to be one of the priciest item (considering a beef burger is 9.80++). There could have been another side dish to make it more value for money.

Discovered another new spot @SanLorBak hidden in Kallang Bahru residential area serving up our comforting Taiwanese grubs! . With a simple menu featuring their signature Braised Pork Rice ($3.80), you can also add on Taiwanese Crispy Chicken ($5), Firecracker Squid ($5) & more. Expect luscious chunks of roughly chopped three-layered pork belly evenly coated with its sweet & savoury sauce. . Comparison is a thief of one’s personality, but I must comment that it’s not as elevated nor as fragrant as a couple of others I’ve tried elsewhere. Would genuinely prefer a thicker & sweeter consistency with some changes to the ratio of their spices, perhaps with reduced sodium content as well. That said, I like that it remains value-for-money with generous chunks of tender protein piled on steaming hot fragrant short grain rice, topped with braised egg, earthy shiitake, & pickled cucumber. The acidity from the pickles (and chili not pictured) surely helps to cut through all the fats & meat. . Overall, in my quest to search for the best luroufan in Singapore, the basic ingredients always remain the same though flavours definitely vary, the one here is absolutely true to its tagline of “Taiwanese Style, Singapore Taste”, rather homely. . Nevertheless, it’s good to see a refreshing addition helmed by young hawkers in my childhood spot. Braised Pork Rice Taiwanese food stalls seem to be aplenty at food centers and coffee shops of the late; this is from San Lor Bak Png, a new stall at Blk 63 Geylang Bahru, Food Cheery coffeeshop run by the folks behind Chop Chop Western Grill that is located in the same coffeeshop. Pretty much of an affordable eat; $3.80 for a portion that is pretty substantial. The braised pork here uses parts from the belly; the braising here is a little bit on the lighter side without becoming overly savoury, with the flavours of the spices used coming through after a few more spoonfuls. Pork was more on the lean side; gives the dish more bite in general while the pickled cucumbers help to cut through the meatiness overall. Rice was well-drenched in the light braised sauce, while the mushroom adds a hint of earthiness for some contrast. Not too much of a fan of the stone-cold braised egg that is left by the side, pre-prepared however. Overall, a pretty decent bowl of Braised Pork Rice at an affordable price in the area that should satisfy cravings for those living in the area.

This is some comfort food level stuff right here. Kyodai has got some solid donburis, and my Favourite was the Furikake Butter Beef. The only thing about Kyodai is that it's a small kiosk at the moment, so there's around 5 or 6 seats available. Even then, plenty of people queuing up for a bite, so you know it's good!

Kaarage lunch 🍗 I didn’t notice till recently, but Aki Sushi & Grill expanded their place in plaza so I thought I’d try it out. I also didn’t expect the kaarage set to be at a reasonable price ($11.90)! But for the price it’s quite worth it! They gave you a lot of kaarage as well as rice, miso soup, some salad, and chawanmushi. The kaarage was actually pretty good; the outside was crispy while the inside was juicy 👍 I think I’ll definitely go back to try their other sets but you can also buy their already made sushi they sell on the outside and eat it in the restaurant! 🍣

Katsu & Yakitori Bento It's clearance, so I can't expect much. The star was the yakitori, which was tasty and firm. On the other hand, the katsu was dry and forgettable. Special mention for the two deep-fried sushi, which were surprisingly good.

Ebi Don It's clearance, so I can't expect much. The egg was most enjoyable.

Ice Green Tea [$3] Iced green tea that had distinct tea notes!

Ice Yucha Tea [$4] There’s this Korean citron drink that I love, and that’s what Ju Ju Coffee serves here for their Ice Yucha Tea! It’s refreshing with just enough sweetness, plus there are bits of yuzu for you to bite on. You can also opt for the hot version at the same price.

Jajangmyeon [$10] Thought the Jajang sauce could be sweeter and more rich, but they threw in a good mix of ingredients - Mangalitsa pork belly, carrots, onions, zucchini and mushrooms. Noodles were unfortunately too soft for our liking.

Crab Melt Sandwich Satisfying thick sandwich with crab cake, cheddar, onions, tomatoes, sriracha tartare and a side of fries which I had upgraded to truffle fries. The crab cake is flavourful with a good texture. This was probably one of the better crab cakes I ever had 》$20 + $2 Parmesan Truffle Fries

Homemade Rosti & Breakfast Sausage It's so sad to see them go 🥺 I'm already missing my weekend brunch at Riders Cafe. The homemade rösti & breakfast sausage is served with poached eggs, bacon, hollandaise and parmesan. The crispy fried potato shreds are well-seasoned and pairs well with their homemade juicy sausage 》$19

Smashed Avo & Eggs ($16) Avocado, Feta, Tomatoes, Poached Eggs, Sesame Seeds, Crushed Hazelnuts, Rustic Toast Quite an enjoyable avo toast! Generous servings of avo that wasn’t salty, the feta, tomatoes, sesame seeds and hazelnuts added additional flavour and texture. Toast was good, crunchy but not too dry.

Magic A very interesting name for a cup of white coffee. It is actually double ristretto topped up with milk in a 5oz cup. Alternative milk options with oat or soy is available.

Pulled Pork Burger I was here early in the morning for something at Kampong Glam, and found this brunch place that opens from 9am during the weekends. Their pulled pork burger was not what I would expecting. The pulled pork is actually very spicy, something to take note for those who doesn’t want any heavy taste meal for morning. But I personally still enjoy it a lot. The pulled pork burger stuffed with purple slaw, sunny side-up and brioche burger bun. Accompanied by tater tots.
