Wow. Wow. Wow. That was all I could think about after stuffing my face with these mini smoked and braised duck mantous. The duck was so meltingly tender and the mantous, pillowy and light. So not what I expected to find here. I mean, we couldn’t get away with the normal brunch stuff like truffle omelette which was good (portion-wise is huge, absolutely recommend to share), the dish just couldn’t compare to these bad boys. There’s also some salad but honestly, I’m rooting for the duck. Duck for breakfast. Duck for president!

So pumped to find Fin back in action, now with a broader menu and serving a ‘hawt’ version of my fave ‘Moana’, the Sumo Salmon; miso-glazed salmon with the usual trimmings. Most noteworthy, however, is the flavourful wasabi-ginger soy sauce which I cannot stop thinking about. One thing’s for sure, Fin has got this bowl thing down to a fine art by now. #takemymoney

This is so good it’s hard not to finish in one go! It’s all about the batter and Brasserie Fritz made a thosai-themed one with excellent effect. The battered casing is light, crispy and aromatic, and the cod fish white and perfectly cooked. Served with cucumber raita, peas, and dangerously addictive fat chips. I might stir up a controversy here, but this puts up as a strong contender for one of the tastiest fish and chips in KL.

I love coffee and Dew’s Kopiko Tart certainly got my attention! As the name suggests, expect to find lashings and lashings of coffee (Nescafe, in fact, they aren’t shy to tell you that) mousse and praline, delicately glossed in more coffee ganache and a sweet cacao nib nougatine on top. What a treat this was!

Pretty as a picture and taste damn well too. I tend to shy away from anything sour-y so this was a new one for my tastebuds. Jaslyn (of Jaslyn Cakes) and team masterfully balances flavours and textures in this Basil Lime tart; light basil mousse atop a lime & basil curd encased in a crisp tart crust. This version also replaces whipped cream with delicate pieces of meringue. A finished body of sweet art.

Surprisingly tasty spaghetti dish tossed with a creamy sambal sauce and some crispy chicken ham on top. The dish may sound complicated in theory (I was skeptical too) but I could see myself wanting this again in the near future. It’s the sort of recipe that mom comes up with randomly during one of those experiments at home and it makes no sense yet it becomes a staple. The heat is subtle and the strips of ham adds much-needed texture to the dish. Honestly, this place is such a pleasant place to have a meal. It’s casual and unpretentious, and service is very friendly. The iced coconut latte is a plus point.

This is no momofuku milk bar, but the homemade nutella ice cream with cornflakes is a nice try. It’s light and milky, with lots of nutella chunks for good measure.

Hard to practice restraint here when there’s a truckload of toppings to choose from. The sambal petai and sweet sambal is a must try. In the event that you find yourself broke and hungry, this ranks right up with just about any other cheap and good eats you have ever eaten.

Nasi lemak is no novelty but these guys whip up some real good deal here. From only RM2 for a solid nasi lemak, it’s no wonder the stall has developed a cult following. I was genuinely surprised when our bill amounted to only RM10.40 for these two overfilled styrofoam packs which included almost everything on the menu?? In the mix were dry pork curry, luncheon meat, fried eggs, stir-fried kangkung and a damn tasty sambal petai. A lot of good flavours going on in our dinner though the rice tastes more muted than you might expect. Still, dinner here is an absolute steal and worth making a beeline for.

A little turned off by the look of the cheese but found myself enjoying this dish every spoonful I take (sans cheese). The curry was rich and flavourful but not overwhelming, balancing nicely with all the trimmings in this pot. Personally felt that the cheese was redundant. Nevertheless, give this a go if you’re looking for something savoury here. Curry rice rarely disappoints.

Not-your-average Indian dish, but these are very good (fluffy mantao!!). No regrets ordering them.

Daughter Peoh’s a place you’d run to if you’re desperately looking for something local at an air-conditioned spot. The char koay teow won’t do much in satisfying the craving though as it lacked the qualities of a good Penang-style char koay teow. Felt like I was playing a game of “Where’s Waldo” searching for cockles (which are puny) and duck egg (close to none). Filing this under char koay nope.
