Budae Jjigae ($11) Headed down here because of the great reviews and their vast menu of Korean vegetarian fare. Quite close to Tai Seng mrt. Cosy ambiance with low tables. Tried the individual pot army stew medium spicy and chock full of ingredients. A hearty vegetarian meal and filling for one. Would come here more often if it weren’t so far for me :(

Matcha Latte (Hot - $6.50) I felt that it was quite milky texture tbh and mild taste for matcha. I wanted to try their matcha latte for a long time until now. It took me a while.

Golden Waffle + Ice Cream ($15++) Very quiet on a Tuesday night with only a handful of tables - perfect for those who want some peace and quiet in the bustling City Hall area! We had the Golden Waffle with a scoop of ice cream, which the staff - Jing - recommended Yuzu Yoghurt. And it was so good! She was so nice and let us try a few flavours; also recommended the Almond Financier waffle which I am seriously considering returning to try. The only downside would be the price point, $17.99 in total is pretty steep :(

Black Pepper Chicken Chop Rice I don't usually order black pepper from Chinese stalls but Malay stalls do it better. Together with the runny egg, this was a flavour bomb. The meat didn't come neatly as a cutlet but it is.

Mee Goreng We've had very good mee goreng from some Malay stalls so tried our luck again. Fortunately, this had the wetness and the intense flavour. But the yellow noodles got jelak soon.

Nasi Ayam Sambal I love this dish. The version here is a bit different. The chicken used is chicken rice roast chicken, so drenching sambal chilli over it was quite unconventional. The rice, soup and second chilli were good too!

Curried mentaiko egg mayo - Curried egg salad topped with generous mentaiko mayo, tonkatsu sauce, furikake and tempura crumbs, providing a medley of textures and spiced umami flavours that went well together! - Sourdough was well-toasted and didn’t turn soggy 🍞 - Quite rich, would recommend to share 🤭 [7.5/10]  

Sichuan mala tater tots - Crispy but sichuan seasoning and green pepper oil were too overwhelming for me, to be fair I’m not a mala fan though 🫣 - Mala mayo on the side gave a stronger numbing sensation than spiciness that I would’ve otherwise preferred. - A unique twist but I personally would stick to the usual truffle option. [6/10]

Grilled cheese - Mix of cheddar, mozzarella and blue cheese mayo which was very savoury yet not pungent, pairing well with the tangy tomato dip 🧀 - Sourdough had a perfectly crispy exterior! [8/10]

Double cheeseburger with salad and coleslaw The cheeseburger here is among the freshest, juiciest and tastiest burgers I have ever eaten. Highly recommended, and is one of the main reasons I enjoy hanging out here with friends and family.

Blackened Dory The blackened dory was well marinated with the spices, and I appreciate the mashed potato being piped beautifully onto the plate for aesthetic purposes. Potato was truly creamy and smooth. The vegetables lacked seasoning and were not steamed fully. I would suggest roasting them instead.

American Roadhouse Diner The best dishes in the picture is definitely the BlooiE's Chilli Cheesy Dog (their chili con carne is pretty good) and the quattro formaggio pizza. The burger patty is way too dry, but the cheesy dog has really soft buns with juicy cheesy dog. The pizza is super delicious and cheesy and the blue cheese on it was a delight. You could smell it before the waitress place it on the table. Pasta is pretty normal I would say. ~ $20/pax

Noodles Soup From Metta Cafe Tasty bowl of savoury noodles soup. Satisfying portion with lots of seasonal ingredients. Highly recommended.

Another winner for dinner tonight. Went all the way to Ubi for these. 1 roast duck + 1kg roast pork = $36. I'm quite certain this is the cheapest and above average(in terms of yummy factor) roast items in the whole of SG. Freshly out from the oven when I reached, still piping hot now. Ordered a bowl of grass jelly to go with these. All ready for a meeting later!!

Prawn Mee There’s a few food centres around Mapherson and interestingly this is actually my first time visiting this one. It was very packed in the morning when I came here, as most of the stalls here open for breakfast. Jia Le Prawn Mee & Lor Mee is one of the popular noodle stall with queue. Looks very simple but full of taste, especially the soup. Spicy enough after you add in more chilli. Comes with pieces of meat, prawn and fish cake.

CCK 190 Wanton Mee (01-110) Do you prefer fried wanton or boiled wanton? I chanced upon Block 89 MacPherson Market & Food Centre and checked out CCK 190 Wanton Mee (01-110) after reading about them for years. For either $3/4, you’ll get a decent portion of wanton mee with a choice of boiled or fried wanton. We had the signature wanton mee and added the fried wantons ($1 for 4 pieces). It served with thick slices of char siew that’s roasted in the stall and some blanched chye sim. I found the fried wanton stood out against the boiled wanton. Fried until golden brown, the fried wanton skin was crispy and filled with marinated minced pork that retained its moisture. The boiled wanton skin was a bit too thick of my liking. I would think the fried/ boiled dumplings would be worth a try. The char siew was nicely charred and slightly sweet. Being the traditional variant, the meat was lean and meaty with very little proportion of fat. The noodles were firm and springy without the reek of alkaline. And the homemade chilli sauce had a nice spicy kick to it (the owners spend four hours each morning to make the sauce). You can have dark sauce if you prefer a non-spicy option. Both options are mixed with lard oil for enhanced flavour. It’s a decent plate of wanton mee but having eaten quite a number of wanton mee over the past few months, it’s not Terryfic. Fun fact: They used to be located in Choa Chu Kang for over 20 years and reopened in MacPherson in 2016 after taking a short break.

Your Teh Served On SQ Tray Stall #01-131, tea for 80c. Taste wise average but I decided to burp this because I can imagine the Aunty carrying the drinks and asking "Kopi, teh or me" with her collection of SQ trays. Xoxo, wet tissue no have

Beef Pho An outstanding bowl of pho from a Viet hawker. Everything was on point, from the meat to the soup to the garnish. The beef has different cuts.

Wanton Mee From Hai Teng Wanton Mee 云吞面 $4.50 portion of wanton mee. Classic style, good serving of char siew, springy noodles, 2 cooked wanton in the slighty peppery soup. Not bad indeed.

Putian Fried Beehoon ($4) Generous portion of noodles with a strong wokhey flavor. The ingredients aren't a lot but has a variety of seafood, meat and veg. Overall, not too intense, but the flavor builds up. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Today's Special Cake Today's Special Cake ($5) I went to there around 3 p.m. for matcha roll cake and almost near to the closing time but she alr sold out half of her daily stocks for cake. I noticed that most of them just collect the cake for celebration around 3 to 4 p.m. only. So if you want to try her cake and u can contact her directly for cake reservation or coming around opening hours for fresh daily stocks in cake instead. hmmm today's special cake is like dark chocolate cream cake but the taste is not that strong and the cake and cream's taste really quite lighter than I thought that so I got disappointed when matcha roll cake is sold out and didn't intend to get too strong taste in the cake.

Strawberry Roll [$5.50] This Strawberry Roll had a lot more cream than the Matcha Roll ($5.50) which gave it much better ratio. Similarly, the cake texture was soft and fluffy, while the cream used here was fresh and light. The strawberry flavour is super subtle though, with two to three slices of strawberry within. It’s probably not be for you if you’re looking for something much stronger in the fruity flavour.

Matcha Roll [$5.50] Got ourselves Matcha and Strawberry Rolls from The Pound, a very humble bakery cafe tucked in Sultan Plaza by a friendly Korean owner-baker. Came wanting to try the Matcha and Black Sesame but they ran out of the latter. The Matcha Roll was a lovely treat. The chiffon-like cake was fluffy soft and layered with matcha cream, topped with a matcha white chocolate glaze. A little sweet but not too much, with the bittersweet notes still present. Definitely wished there was a lot more cream for better ratio, but it was a thick roll for $5.50 - not bad a price tag considering its quality.
