Found this hidey hole in a corner near Purvis Street. Delighted that they had coconut flavoured ice cream! Had to have it! The waffle, while not entirely photogenic, was soft and tasted yummy and I really enjoyed it. Tried some of the other flavours of ice cream too and they were all really good.
A generous slice of salmon coated on top with dao jiao, a yummy bean paste. Comes on a bed of glass noodles, which was quite light but balances out the heavy salmon taste well. And it was very pretty!
I really enjoyed this!! Really refreshing and it tasted so yummy and delightful, but if there was supposed to be alcohol in it I didn't taste it. I really wanted more but sadly it was also quite exorbitantly priced at $4.50 a sphere.
After much raving on the Instagram world, I finally tried the gourmet waffle at Fat Cat. It's special as it is a charcoal waffle with a side of salted egg (liu shar) sauce, and caramel drizzle on the side sprinkled with bits of lavender. In theory that sounds pretty amazing! We chose two ice cream flavours, Butter Beer and Earl Grey Lavender (sadly they were out of pistachio). Well, the ice cream on its own was good, but together with the caramel and the salted egg sauce it all came together and the overall taste was overwhelming in a confusing pool of sweetness, with no one flavour being distinct. I don't know, my friend said she enjoyed it though. Either way, it was quite nicely plated!
There's nothing like a local breakfast of eggs and kaya toast. All the fancy brunches in the world somehow may never quite measure up to the comfort of a no frills, cheap and authentic breakfast like this. Eggs soft boiled to perfection, soft bun with fragrant kaya, and a self-service assortment of baked goodies that I grew up on, with the likes of cream horns, chocolate cupcakes, and egg tarts. Happy that this place has survived gentrification so far and hope it stays that way.
I love this place! During lunch they've the most awesome set - for $18 you can choose a main, a soup/ salad/ dessert, and coffee/ tea. My mum and I often come here to dine as its quiet and the food is good. This time, she had the sea bass (not pictured) which was huge and well done and the skin was crispy to perfection. I had the steak which was really tasty, and the creme brulee. The creme brulee is HUGE! Best to come with a friend and have them order a soup or salad and you can split the portions because it's generous and just so worth it. There's also a pasta set for $15!
Was brought here by a friend for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Tucked away in a nondescript stretch of shops opposite Changi Prison, I probably never would have ordinarily found this place. This place has been around for a while, before the whole café scene got so engorged, and so it escapes from presenting itself as try hard. While the place itself is nothing fancy, the food was good. They've a lunch set that is very worth it, coming with a main and a drink. I had the baked Portugese chicken and rice, and it was filling and wholeheartedly delicious. The calamari we had to share was also amazing!
Really comforting and tasty. Done differently from other soupy YTF places, the YTF here is best eaten dry, with noodles. What sets it apart is the thick minced meat and mushroom sauce they prepare everything in, it's delicious. Pick a selection of both fried and non-fried ingredients, both are equally good!
Had a strange craving for lemon chicken rice and ate here because I was in the area and they had it! Not amazing though, the regular roasted chicken rice looked so much better! Gotta come back soon also because the toast looks soooo gooood ðŸ˜
Craftsmen used to serve Belgian waffles but sadly they've now switched to the conventional waffles you get everywhere else. While the waffle was nicely crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, there was no real gula melaka flavour. But they do give a generous serving of chopped almonds and fresh strawberries and blueberries, which I appreciate. A little on the steep end, at $13.90 a pop.
In my opinion, this is and probably always will be the best mee pok I've ever eaten. But the service is really super slow and it's been like that for as long as I can remember. Worth the wait though!!
