Smashed Avo ($21) We opted for a relatively healthier option to start the day and we were glad that it was more flavourful than expected. The feta yoghurt at the side goes really well with the sourdough toast. We liked the crunch from the nut toppings as well. The serving size may look small here but it's actually pretty filling. We came on a weekday morning and got a table in a few minutes. There's no service charge here 😀

As for the fish & chips, usual stuff, normal, good for sharing. Flat white was not bad too, nutty finish, and cute doggie latte art. Overall, a cosy cafe to have brunch, chill and hang out with friend. Damage: $52.60 (CDC vouchers accepted)

Shakshuka ($17.80) I did passby this cafe before (probably in the past) the sourdough was quite crispy and crunchy to dip with tomato sauce inside shakshuka. But the tomato sauce was quite sour and not that spicy taste.

What’s The Hype? It doesn’t taste Thai at all. Just normal beef noodles with Thai basil, chili flakes and vinegar chili. Beef was tender though and it’s halal!

5nett Portion + Beefballs 1nett Didnt know the 5$ portion didnt come with Beefballs. Its been so long since i was here; the last time i was here i havent used Burpple yet. Beef and tripe were super tender and flavourful as always. Because of that this is still my favourite place for thai beef Noodles. The tendons were cooked well too. Beef balls were fine but 2 beef balls for 1$ is a little steep. Really nice service too

Filter Brews — Fairy Lights V3 blend Hadn't been here as often as I should even though school used to be very close by — it's great to be back here to enjoy the serene and idyllic vibes and watching the baristas doing the hand brews here with love and passion for the craft. Always satisfied with my coffee here — the hand brews here are always a refreshing break away from the heavier espresso-based coffees brewed from machines. This cuppa carries a fruity, caramel-esque flavour profile, very clean-tasting yet aromatic being brewed from a blend of beans from Colombia and El Salvador; a sheer pleasure to have on a slow weekend morning.

Iced Latte Great place if you're looking for a quiet spot to get some reading done or just to chill.

Salted Egg Prawn Eggs Benedict This dish (as well as the other dishes) is pretty unique. I mean, it's not everyday you see a creamy version of salted egg mixed with hollandaise sauce. The bread is soft and nice, eggs poached well, i'm just wondering why they used prawn, of all meats. Also the kale didn't seem to complement the other ingredients. But overall it was a satisfying meal (the salted egg is worth a try), and I liked how the portions are not too big and doesn't leave you with a jelak feeling. Best part is that the prices are cheap (for cafe food), the place is spacious and empty (good for catchups) and there are power points for you to charge your devices~

Looks Decent, Taste Disappointing I must say the prices are cheaper than your regular brunch places because they do not charge GST and service charge. However...this place did not impress. My review: Tom Yum Creamy Prawns Pasta - 7/10. Tad bit creamy. But overall taste is quite nice. Best to share to avoid “gerlat-ness” Roast Beef - 5.5/10 I was eating beef jerky. Seriously. No further comments. (And chickpeas seriously? Hahaha)

Eggs Benedict - Salted Egg Yolk Prawn And Salmon Eggs benny can’t go wrong (if you stick with the classic) - the smoked salmon version was pretty good! Serving is just nice and unlikely to hit you with a food coma after your meal. The “salted egg yolk w prawn” was too Asian for my liking. Prefer the authentic tzechar version of salted eggs prawns fried to perfection instead of a salted eggs infused “hollandaise” sauce layered as a cream over prawns which are separately cooked (ie. not infused and coated w the salted eggy unless you dip it into the hollandaise). Worth a try for all salty eggy fans tho! But definitely not if you’re really craving for the real deal!

Disappointing and overpriced Friends used to frequent this cafe so we decided to drop by. Had the Duck Confit Rosti ($22), Truffle Fries ($13), and Kombucha ($8). Rosti was pretty thin but I give it a thumbs up for being crisp at the edges and also quite delicious. Nothing to complain about for the eggs but I thought the "duck Confit" was more like shredded leftover duck. Fries came in a huge portion but I could barely taste the truffle. And the volume of kombucha I got for 8 bucks was pathetic. Service-wise, it was passable but bordering on unfriendly.

Smoked Salmon Hash ($22) Smoked Salmon Hash ($22) This came with 2 poached eggs, and a generous amount of smoked salmon on top of crispy rosti, topped with Tobiko! The smoked salmon was slightly salty, but had a nice flavour too, altho it did overpower the rosti flavour a little. Overall a nice place to chill at, and you might need to queue for seats during weekends & lunch timings. Much preferred the vibes over the food, so go with managed expectations! Overall Rating: 7/10

Mentaiko Mac and Cheese ($20) Established in 2013, @knockhousecafe is located a few minutes walk from Upper Thomson MRT. Previously known as Pacamara, they have rebranded to Knockhouse Cafe since 2020. Mentaiko Mac and Cheese ($20) Slightly cheesy and creamy, but would prefer a much stronger Mentaiko flavour and more generous sauce! Didn't particularly enjoy the chicken that was within because of the texture and flavour.

Really appreciate the good service and consistent serving size according to their usual (the portions are sizeable! 👍), nicely sautéed mushroom, fatty artisanal chorizo sausage and fav tater tots 💖

Overall good experience. Value for money, not bad but sausage and bacon were a little salty. $33 for 2 breakfast sets + 2 coffees.

Gashouse Eggs | $13 Finally had the chance to hit up One Man Coffee after being greeted by long snaking queues during their brunch time. Got lucky and managed to snag a seat for breakfast. Opted for the gashouse eggs as I was not feeling hungry enough for the bigger plates. Absolutely loved how they made it, cheesy on the top yet oozy sunny side up egg in the middle. I’m personally not a fan of sourdough bread that’s too tough, but this crusty rendition had a great chewy texture to it. Rate:🌟🌟🌟

Dessert wise, their Dark Molten ($12) lava cake is simple yet lovely. Home baked dark chocolate lava cake that’s not too sweet, and paired with yummy vanilla ice cream. Poutine Fries ($12) Finally visited Habitat Coffee's latest location after it moved out of the neighbourhood along Upper Thomson Road. The new interior at Lavender with its curved rims & high ceiling brought about a different look to the venue. On the menu, they had expanded it quite a fair bit, catering to the all-day dining folks & those popping by just got tea & snacks. We decided to order their Poutine Fries as I was feeling a lil' peckish & it's something that most places would not offer. The generous portion of brown sauce is ladled over crispy shoestring fries and topped with grated parmesan. While it was slightly salty (really slight), having a couple of plain fries without the gravy does help to balance out the saltiness a little. On the side, wash it down with your coffee of choice, or with the variety of sweets!

Traditional Char Kway Teow Traditional style CKT fried in batches and then finished off individually. The $4 portion is enough if you are not particularly hungry. The fried kway teow has some wok heat when served. It is the wetter version and comes with sliced Chinese sausages and fish cakes. They also add bean sprouts and Chye Sim but what also liked about it is the large cockles that this stall uses, unlike the small peanut sized cockles that seems to be the norm these days with even the big CKT names. Nice.

With some luck on my side today, I spotted this unassuming dessert stall runs by an elderly couple that sells glutinous rice balls [a.k.a. tang yuan 汤圆 — traditionally served on this day as a symbol of reunion] in sweet ginger soup. Though these were frozen, ready-made ones, we really have nothing to complain about. Double scoop Belgian waffles, with chocolate and toasted marshmallow ice cream ($8.90). The toasted marshmallow was really unique, which is definitely more than I can say for the waffles. Grossly overpriced and far from a good definition of waffle. All of us left our waffles unfinished.

Mini churros bites, 8 pieces ($5.90). Spanish toasted churros with chocolate sauce dip. Saw this cafe on @stormscape feed some time back and managed to try it today. Overall, food here is mediocre and rather pricey. Surprisingly, lots of students can afford the food here.
