Nice and buttery grilled fish, with a generous bed of greens on top (which we highly appreciate after an incredibly filling start of the meal). The shio kombu butter is the winning element — boasting depth and savoury goodness.
In case I haven’t mentioned, this smart casual restobar that quietly cropped up in TTDI is absolutely the place to be if you like to eat. The concept centres around their charcoal grill, and as a result, everything that comes off it has a lovely smokiness.
We started our night on these, wonderfully creamy and cumin-y eggplant with the bright crunchy bursts of pomegranate and fragrant fried shallots.
How are sweet potatoes this good? Ask Ember. Nailing the caramelised, crisp-skinned cook on the sweet potatoes, the dish also features piquant ulam raja and smoked yoghurt below. Sweet, rich with a crunchy zing. Yum.
Also overheard someone come in to dapao this. Can totally imagine munching on a plate of this for a kinda healthy, very delicious tv dinner.
Cold wanton mee-reminiscent noodles tossed in lovely ponzu sauce, served with sweet pear slices and smoked duck. Interestingly, the simply but excellent done noodles stood out much more than the meat here.
Can this cafe do no wrong? Apparently not (okay fine, maybe they’re a bit expensive). The croissant I had today was beautifully plated and woo so yummy. The briny tuna plays well with deeply flavoured gouda shavings, while ash, roe and herbs come in as extras for a perfect punch.
Loving the prices at Rage, plus it’s free to opt for their range of alt milk (oat, coconut or soy).
Was recommended the matcha gula melaka to go with coconut milk for a creamy, onde-onde-like drink (it tastes like precisely that, with a tinge of coffee at the end), and the latte with oat milk. The latter is quite well-balanced compared to other oat lattes I’ve had and at just RM8, it’s pretty damn worth it.
Got this at RM5 since they’re still on an opening special (all week!). Essentially milo dinosaur with an espresso shot, this one is easy to love. But I have to say given the name, I actually expected something a lot punchier and perhaps sweeter too. Instead this is much subtler, though still a yummy drink by all measures.
This spanking new joint by the Super Loco group exudes nice vibes for dinner with friends, especially if you like chicken. From the Sandwiches section of the menu, this massive burger rocks a delicious, spicy dressing with slaw and jalapeno. Some parts of the burger (that doesn’t benefit from the sauce) tend to be a bit dry, but it’s overall a good one.
Kovan’s Soon Soon porridge uncle is now running the show at this White House in Boon Keng. The variety of dishes to go with rice or porridge is great, from braised duck to steamed fish.
Skip the latter that didn’t really impress (slightly bland and overcooked) and go for the cheaper and flavour-packed black bean fish instead. Cabbage was especially yummy, while pork belly and fish cake were not too shabby.
120ml of creamy milk + a shot of what tasted like rather over-extracted espresso. Not a big fan of milk coffee here, so stick with the black/nitro!
A little sweet, fizzy and bitter, this nitro drink makes a good choice for hot days. Didn’t feel the nitro adds much to the equation, but overall still a decently priced, jazzed up coffee drink in the area.
You can get this both a la carte or as part of a rice set, but because I greedy, this was a side to my beef bowl main. The chicken is warm and crunchy, but lacks just a tad bit more seasoning so the Japanese mayo comes in handy to enhance flavour. Comes with a small bunch of sesame sauce-laden shredded cabbage.
