Got the shabu sliced pork and prawn soup ($14) with thin bee hoon (dry). The broth was very prawn-y and fragrant which if you like seafood, you will enjoy it! What I liked about this was that the prawn was already de-shelled, leaving the head attached, so it's pretty convenient to eat. Portion was generous as well. Out of all the ngoh hiang I ordered, my favourite was the prawn cracker!
Ordered the grilled chicken thinking that it would be a no carb dish (rice was not mentioned on the menu). After the food came we were quite shocked and went to re-read the menu, only to see that this dish fell under the "East meets West" category which i guess was all served with rice (could be clearer on the menu!)
Honestly super pricey at $19++ and for the quality + portion, i'd say that it's not really worth. Tried my friend's truffle mushroom pasta and it was disappointing too. Bland and watery🥲 not sure if it's just a bad day for the chef (because this place seems to have good reviews). The saving grace was the truffle fries!
But I don't think I will be back again and would very much prefer to eat at Saizeriya.
ordered a few items and enjoyed most of it! my favourite is the crabmeat egg roll which they were generous with their crabmeat! the egg was soft and fluffy, well seasoned (not salty) which allowed the natural sweetness of the crab meat to come through!!!
special mentions would be the corn pancake and the crabmeat & roe rice ball (yea i love crab, would get crab pancake if they had it on their menu😌)
corn pancake had a nice crisp, was thick enough and the sour cream went super well with it! recommended to share amongst 3-4 pax so to not over eat (if it's a side dish). if you're eating it as a main then...it's good to share with 1 other person.
crabmeat & roe riceball was fun to ball it up!! love the kick of the chilli padi that accentuated the whole combination of the ingredients.
all in all, pleasant experience!
Missing the Taiwan night markets? Head to this bistro in Jalan Besar for their Chicken Mee Sua ($5), Crispy Enoki Mushroom ($4.80), Chives & Pork Dumplings ($5.80) and Plum Fries ($4.80). Don't miss out on their Yam Milk ($5.80), which had Burppler Amanda Quek raving about how she's "Not really a big fan of yam but I must say, I was quite pleased with how it turned out... even felt like the drink could have more yam😂"
