Crabmeat Linguine Located along the riverside of the idyllic Sungei Serangoon, Whisk & Paddle is one of our favourite spot for a nice relaxed afternoon. The only problem is that we ain't the only ones as there is often a long wait for a table and an even longer wait for food 😭😭😭. It used to get unbearably hot in the al fresco areaa during the afternoon but thank goodness they have extended the air conditioning to most parts of the cafe. One of favourite dishes here is the crabmeat linguine which features al dente linguine with a generous portion of crabmeat in a spicy tomato sauce topped with Italian parsley. We love the combination of the sweet yet slightly briny crabmeat with the tangy tomato sauce. The only problem is that you might end up reaching for the iced water if you bite on a chilli padi or two!

Flat White And while the 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 ($5.50) was smooth, we felt it was lacking in robustness. However, extra points for the two gem biscuits that came with it, evoking fond childhood memories.

Butter Croissant w Scrambled Eggs You can't really go wrong with the 𝗕𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝗴𝗴𝘀 ($14.80). The crispy, flakey croissant was paired with a creamy scramble and a choice of either candied bacon or creamy dill mushrooms (we chose the former). The sweet-savoury bacon stole our hearts and we couldn't fault this dish.

Dubbed the ‘pork of dreams’ ☁️, this pork will delight you with its marbling, melt-in-the-mouth texture & delicate sweetness! 🤤 Bonus: it is also high in protein, collagen, vitamin B1 & oleic acid levels! 💪🏻 . Like the varying textures & bite of the 3 cuts Hokkaido Pork collar, belly & tontoro (jowl)! 💗 The set meal comes with a side of rice 🍚, seaweed soup, kimchi or salad 🥗. 

Zi Char Nice ambience and food is relatively cheaper than others. Taste is good too. But be prepared for long waits of up to an hour to get your food as they are very clearly under staffed. They are pets friendly too. Book early if you want to be seated next to the waters.

Late Night Lok Lok (Starts At 10.30PM) PRICE: Starts from $0.50 a stick WAITING TIME: 5-10 min VERDICT: - limited choices for the lowest priced ($0.50) sticks - not as oily as the ones you get in JB - the sauces aren't as fantastic as those in JB WILL WE RETURN? Possibly. Since there is hardly any late-night food option around Punggol. But the thought of sitting and eating in the outdoor aka smoking zone though...😣

Crab cake Benedict Benedict (poached egg with creamy cheese) on in-house crab cake (texture a little like hash brown but more seafood creamy taste) on sour dough. Sided with some salad veg. $20. Good creamy egg as breakfast.

Pulled Pork and Avocado Eggs Benedict Should be better in terms of flavour. Ordered this dish because of good reviews. However, when taking a bite, the taste of food was overpowering. Had to dabble with egg to balance out the flavour of pulled pork. To put it simply, it was salty. Cost: $20

Chicken chop This simple dish took me by surprise with a slight char, slight crisp and yet tender and juicy on the inside. This was served with some salad and potato cubes topped with bacon bits on the side. But how this differs from the rest that I’ve had is the sauce that it’s served with - curry (and it wasn’t those thick and gelat kind). Interesting take and taste but wouldn’t mind having this again only if I’m in the area.

Great Sushi Find Paid a visit to this sushi restaurant in our neighbourhood, and we really enjoyed the food! 🌟 Premium Sushi Set $30+ (pic): Assorted premium nigiri sushi, great quality and reasonably priced. Chawanmushi was also delicious. Would definitely order again! 🌟 Kaiyo Chirashi Don ($30+): Fresh and thick slices of sashimi. Very worth the price too. Would come back again - but only for the food. Service staff weren’t the most hospitable, but the owner himself is very pleasant. Ok Good 🙂 Great

Decent Japanese Food Teck Chye Terrace houses an eclectic collection of eateries. There is the famous teochew porridge shop, Kings Laksa steamboat, 8 degrees Taiwanese food and the most recent addition, @kaiyosushigrill We have been meaning to give Kaiyo a try since it opened shortly before the COVID-19 outbreak but only did so recently. Their spicy salmon ikura mentai roll ($23) packs a fiery punch. Needless to say, Joo Eun loved it. The signature Kaiyo Chirashi ($28) features an assortment of sliced sashimi such as salmon, akami, amberjack, scallop and amaebi. The sashimi is fresh and delicious. The Iberican pork collar with yuzu miso ($22) was highly recommended online. I found the pork a little on the tough side. The yuzu miso was tasty but a little too salty for my liking. In terms of quality, I think Kaiyo is comparable to Sushi Tei though I think Sushi Tei has the edge in terms of pricing. However, Kaiyo does take reservations so you can avoid a 30 to 45 minutes wait. We will be back to check out the rest of the menu!

Salmon & Mushroom Pasta Delicious like your typical cafe pasta! Think the price was ok🙂

Pork Knuckles ($10) For a pretty decent pork knuckle at just $10, I think it’s worth a visit. The skin was crackling and CRONCH though a little hard at some parts, meat was a mix of tender/tough but I think that’s just how pork knuckles are? The Truffle Mushroom Pasta ($8) was ok, I’d say it is acceptable for price because I actually enjoyed the mushrooms inside (am not a mushroom fan) and pasta was al dente. Portions are really quite decent for their price point so if you’re in the area you can check it out.

Pork Knuckle ($35) Skin made a crackling sound when bitten into. Portion was pretty generous and they deboned the entire knuckle for us. They also have a single serving portion as well. Skip the truffle fries, there was a strong truffle aroma but was lacking in taste.

Le STEAK Ordered ribeye steak well done but unfortunately it came a bit medium rare. Blood Reddish in the centre. :(

Hanging Beef Bowl Probably the most affordable beef bowl in town currently; $10 nett and in Sengkang just beside Ranggung LRT Station. To summarize, the experience I had with the Hanging Beef Bowl was pretty similar to the burger I had previously here — it seemed to carry potential but needed fine-tuning. Thought the meat to rice ratio was decent, and that I liked the crispy fried bits atop the rice that gave it a good crunch. The beef was decent considering the price tag; a little chewy though comes with a hint of smokiness from the grilling. Sous-vide egg wasn't really flowy; more molten and bearing solidification and that the rice was a tad clumpy at parts. I did enjoy the brown sauce that was drenched onto the other components — it keeps things from going too dry here but I am not sure if some folks might prefer a more Japanese-style sauce instead? It's not bad for $10, especially given that I would say this is quite good if you are living around the area and don't want to travel far for a beef bowl, but I would say it does need to be refined for others to head down to the area to try it.

Beef Burger ($11) Located at a corner of a hawker shop, this stall serves a really good burger. The price is worth it considering the good quality of the beef patty. The meal comes with fries, bacon, caramelized onions, and delicious cheese sauce that you would have to pay extra in other burger places. Other options in the menu are equally enticing. Definitely would come here again for the food.

Chicken Chop Served with mushroom sauce, french fries and apple coleslaw (which I requested not to have it) 》$6.50

Xiao Ya Tou We had the truffle roasted duck, mala fish, brussel sprouts and lobster pai tee. All of them were not bad but quite overpriced IMO. The lobster pai tee was the best dish out of the 4 with a generous amount of lobster, slathered in rich mayo and topped with ikura. Truffle roasted duck was not subtle with the truffle which I appreciated. The mala fish was average, while the brussel sprouts was a bit too sweet with Thai chili sauce-like taste.

Mala Fish $31 Fish with lotus roots, glass noodles and others. Personally love mala and thought that this dish has a great mala flavour. Great dish to satisfy mala craving. My top 3 favourite dishes (3/3)
