Long when I think about the hours spent in the office- work and short because there doesn’t seem to be enough time to finish everything that needs to be done. But I am grateful for pockets of breaks- take this full day’s break for example when my empress dowager got hospitalised. I’ll save you the long story; but a side result was me spending my afternoon at Slowbakes, Novena (a hood out of the east where we live). Have I not mentioned how riveting the experience of just having good bread can be? At least for me this simple slice of French toast brioche was enough to uplift my spirits from a concerning day. Life is too short for bad bread, I am reminded. So eager to return and hunt for great bakes around my little red dot when work winds down (EOY?😬)

Sweet Potato Cashew Milk Latte Guilt free and delicious. They made their cashew milk in-house. Ordered the sweet potato variant. Nutty, aromatic profile which resembles a little like soy, the cashew milk goes well together with the purple sweet potato concentrate.They also have a matcha cashew latte that I really want to try next time.

Vegan Cashew Nut Latte Ordered: Matcha and Sweet Potato Cashew Nut Latte ❣️More than just an insta worthy cafe, Kebun joins the vegan party with their menu of lactose free drinks that do more than just tasting good on the tongue. The Matcha latte is slightly “sandy” as this green power pack is made by whisking matcha powder and water to a thick froth (yes, done the good old traditional Japanese way) before the cashew milk is added. The sweet potato latte on the other hand is made with blended sweet potato and cashew milk. Yeap you didn’t read it wrong, it’s blended sweet potato made fresh on the spot upon order. Overhyped and Underwhelming Honestly a bit disappointed. Only the BBQ wings and belachan kang kong stood out. The Hokkien mee lacked the rich, dark flavour it should’ve had. Satay was dry and tough, and the salted egg sotong strangely tasted sweet. Stingray was thin, dry, and wasn’t grilled with any chilli — belachan was just served on the side. The food highlights of this business trip actually happened during the last couple of days and Sri Nirwana Maju Restaurant was one of the stops that justifies Kuala Lumpur as a food city of the world. If you are into moreish comforting flavours, banana leaf rice is right up your alley as you will be piled with mountains of rice, curry sauces and condiments to go alongside a plethora of dishes such as mutton rendang, ayam kicap manis, fried fish and squid. Chicken Briyani Rice Set They didn’t tell me the portion would be enough to feed 2 full grown adults (perhaps it’s just me) Had to loosen my pants a little after the amazing meal, but I don’t regret a single bit.

Turkish Style Eggs I love me some breakfast food all the time. All day breakfast menus are my favourite. I want to have breakfast food for dinner? Can. This was only until 5pm though, but that’s good enough. I couldn’t decide between the VCR Big Breakfast or this but I settled for this. It has chickpeas (not my favourite) but I took it anyway. I broke the 63 degrees eggs and mixed it all together with the pomodoro sauce and Greek yogurt and dipped it together with the flaxseed sourdough toast with bits of sausages. My day? Made. Will I get this again? Definitely. I’ve repeated this a few times already, it’s so good 😍

Matcha Lemonade ($7) Finally went to the moon with @huiyiblackillusion before moon closed for end of month 🥲 I wanted to buy some pins for galaxy collection. I decided to try their drink at cafe but they accepted cashless payment at the counter. The taste for 🍋 was quite strong and covered up bitter taste for 🍵 so good to try it out on different flavour for matcha tbh.

Oat Latte, Moon Milk, Salmon Bagel, Cheese Toast The food was simple but well-made with fresh ingredients, good for folks who can’t have a heavy breakfast like myself. Love their Oat Latte which was really thick and packed a caffeine punch. Moon Milk was also an interesting drink of mushroom, dandelion root and ashwaganda that tasted like an earthy version of chai latte, worth trying out if you’re into superfood drinks. The cafe was quiet and cosy, great place to relax with friends and books.

Great Ambience And Great Drinks Matcha lemonade is a nice twist to the regular lemonade. A beautifully designed and furnished cafe with a bookshop attached. Highly recommended to hop in when in the area.

Unique Caffeinated Twists to Cocktails 78 Alkofelic is the new specialty coffee cocktail bar in town - risked not being able to sleep at night by having some caffeinated cocktails after dinner but thankfully managed to have a good night's rest 😁 The Scotch Tea ($13.80++, right) was pleasant to drink - the chai masala tea was fragrant, & the evaporated milk took the milkiness up a notch without making it too sweet or creamy. The scotch, admittedly, doesn't feel as strong as I am used to (that is, on the rocks 😅), but overall this is a nice cocktail to wind down at the end of your week with. On the flip side, the Flying Singaporean ($13.80++, left) really packs a punch. If you don't like the strong taste of hard liquor or coffee, then this is NOT the drink for you. Look at the ingredients & you'll know why: Absinthe, XO, coffee. Need I say more? 😂 I mentally prepared myself for my first sip, but what hit me truly wow-ed me. Iced Latte ($6), Genmaicha Tea (~$5?), Bittersweet Chocolate Cake w Pear ($7) Eeps the cake was really small and very average. It was bittersweet (as expected from the name), but tasted more like a brownie. The pear was crunchy and raw but we expected a poached pear. Didn’t feel that the $7 price tag was justified. Iced latte was not bad though - the coffee flavour was strong. Genmaicha tea was alright. The service here is great! They’re closing at the end of Nov tho, pay them a visit before they close :) The bookshop they’re housed in is really beautiful and has nice stuff, I don’t think they’re closing but it’s a nice place to check out while waiting for a seat at the cafe! Tbh I enjoyed browsing in the bookstore more than having the food in the cafe :x

This place screams aesthetic. Like a Taiwanese cafe from a fairy tale, the quaint and idyllic interior of the place is relaxing. - Coffee wise, probably could have ordered something cooler, but their hand drip coffee ($6) was really not bad at all. Very forward fruity profile, complimented by a fragrant nutty finish.

The Bird Has Found a Temporary Nest Until 30 April From now till 30 April, Bird Bird is having a limited-time only pop-up at Homeground offering both a lunch and dinner menu. We went for lunch and were wowed by the Crispy Chicken Sandwich which comes with a humongous battered chicken thigh sandwiched between seeded buns and green papaya slaw with a slather of coriander mayo. The Khao Soi did bring us back to our Chiang Mai holiday but wished the curry broth was slightly spicier. It came with a huge duck leg that was cooked perfectly as there was minimal gaminess and the meat was fork tender.
