Another dish worth mentioning from this café is their perfectly marinated pork chop. The generous portion of meat was accompanied with creamy mash potato, glazed vegetables and interestingly – cranberry sauce. We love how the café chose to use the thicker bone-in pork chop for this dish! This allows the meat to get a nice golden sear and gorgeous caramelised crust on both the sides and edges while retaining its tenderness and juiciness. Additionally, we also loved how it is paired with cranberry sauce for that added sweet and sour profiles, which surprisingly balances out the meaty flavour from the pork. Do note that this dish will take slightly longer to be served, but it is worth the wait and we would most definitely order this again next time!
We were puzzled when we were handed a pair plastic gloves when the dessert was served. Apparently, we were supposed to drop the chocolate dome onto the plate to break it open! We excitedly wore the gloves and playfully dropped the chocolate dome onto the plate. Upon impact, the chocolate scattered beautifully into large chocolate pieces and in the process revealing the other goodies (honeycombs, oreo bits, walnuts and popping candies!) that were hidden in the hollow dome. Due to the popping candies, your mouth will be filled with a crackling sensation as they start to pop, and this interesting addition definitely make the dish more interesting and fun to eat! Don’t forget to drizzle the caramel sauce and condensed milk shots served separately on the side for added sweetness~ This is probably the most memorable dessert experience we have ever encountered! Love how the cafe strives to create a dish that is not just delicious but also visually appealing and fun at the same time! Do come and experience it yourselves!
Visited this cafe on a rainy Saturday to have our brunch. Due to the weather, the café is surprisingly less crowded than what we expected. Hence, we were given a huge table in a very cosy corner~ The Miso Salmon served was nicely pan-seared with skin crisped and moisture nicely locked into the tender slab of salmon. The glazed miso on the salmon gave the dish a pleasant sweet and savoury note and we totally love it! This pan-seared salmon is also accompanied by a scoop of creamy mash potato and glazed veggies. Although the mashed potato might be a bit too buttery to our liking, we like how balanced the entire dish is and would order it again the next time we visit!
For anyone who have not tried 蔥抓餅 before, you can understand this dish as a Taiwanese version of the roti prata we are all familiar with. Wrapped within the crisp and flaky flatbread was generous amount of fluffy pork floss and melted cheese! Thanks to this combination, the dish is both sweet and savoury at the same time and is very much to our liking! Also, we like how it was freshly prepared upon order to ensure the crispness of the flatbread. This is something we would definitely order again when we revisit this place!
This is the kind of classic comfort food everyone loves. Just the sight of this bowl of Lu Rou Fan brings back joyful memories of our Taiwan adventure. The fluffy bowl of white rice is nicely coated with a brown glistening sauce and topped with a generous scoop of fatty pork that was braised in soy sauce and mixed herbs for hours. While it can’t be compared to the one that is sold in Taiwan, this humble bowl of Lu Rou Fan from Lai Lai definitely makes a good substitute to satisfy your craving!
A trip to the Dunman Food Centre doesn’t seem complete without trying the famous Dunman Road Char Siew Wanton Mee. The noodles they served were much thicker than the usual egg noodles we see in other wanton mee stalls. Texture-wise, we find the noodles a bit too tough to our liking.
If you are someone who can’t take spiciness, definitely be very careful of the bright red chilli sauce! It was very very spicy and left a lingering burning sensation on our tongue. Although we understand that some people enjoy the kick from this fiery chilli, we feel that it kind of overpower the taste of the well-seasoned sauce and ingredients of this dish. While the wantons were good, the entire dish feels pretty ordinary to us and doesn’t get us WANTon-ING for more.
At Chock Full of Beans, foam is where the art is~ After seeing photos of all the cute 3D latte art on social media, we decided to make our way down to Changi Village to witness it ourselves! Aside from their the famous 3D foam latte, we were also expecting to try their Brulee French Toast. Sadly, we were informed that the cafe no longer serves them. However, they do have several other brunch items that look pretty appetising as well!
Do note that 3D latte art is only available for iced coffee and is strictly by request only! So, do remember to input your request in the comment box when ordering. We requested for a 3D foam piggy on our iced mocha and even added the piggy emoji in the comment box so that the barista can better visualise our request~ 🐷
It took a while for the coffee to be served but the wait was worth it. We were totally delighted by the cute foam piggy on our iced mocha! However, the ordinary tasting mocha made us wonder if it is really worth paying a premium for this. Anything for the ‘gram I guess! ☺️
After our mains, we were served with two delightful desserts – the hot chocolate soup and lemon tart. The chocolate soup is actually a chocolate lava cake dessert, accompanied by a scoop of black pepper ice cream and a strip of sesame crisp. Slowly sliding the spoon into the centre of the lava cake beautifully revealed the gooey molten Varhona chocolate, which was super rich and thick! We know many of you might think that the idea of adding black pepper into ice cream is weird and unconventional, but the slight hint of pepper actually helps make the dessert less cloying.
For citrus desserts’ lovers, you might want to give the lemon tart a try. Though the lemon tart was slightly too sour for our taste, we feel that eating it together with the vanilla ice cream has helped balance out the sourness perfectly! Overall, it was a pleasant dessert, but we feel that it would be better if the base of the tart can be slightly crispier to give this treat that extra crunch.
Overall, the lunch experience at Osia was a very pleasant one. The service crews were very friendly and attentive to our needs. Also, the ambience of the restaurant definitely helps elevate the whole dining experience and is a good choice for any special or celebratory occasions!
After enjoying the flatbread and starters, we moved on to the highlight of the meal. For the mains, we opted for the pan-seared salmon and the classic chicken confit. The salmon was grilled beautifully with perfect sear marks on the exterior and juices nicely sealed in the salmon.
On the other hand, the chicken confit’s skin was nicely crisped with the meat perfectly seasoned. The meat was so tender that it fell off the bone without much effort when we cut it.
Although the mains were well-executed, we feel that there wasn’t a wow factor to it. Given the slightly higher price point, we probably would not be going back there anytime soon.
Before heading down to Osia, we already heard many good reviews of their signature flatbread that is freshly baked upon order using stone hearth oven. So, we decided to order it to taste it ourselves.
While reading some Osia’s review on Burpple, we came across a really helpful tip from fellow burppler – we were able to mix up to 2 flavours for every tray of flatbread! This gave us the chance to try both the Garlic Butter & Parmesan and Bush Tomato & Cheddar flavours offered on their set lunch menu.
The flatbread definitely did not disappoint. It was extremely crisp on the edges and airy on the inside with a nice charred flavour. The bread also came with several accompaniments to help enhance the flavour of the dish. We personally prefer butter as it helps add extra fragrance to the bread without covering the flavour from the toppings.
We were actually hoping to see the signature “toothpaste” tube dip but the restaurant seems not to be serving it at the moment. Instead, the dip was served in a sauce dish. Although we were slightly disappointed, we will still highly recommend you to give their flatbread a try!
It’s hard for one to miss the snaking queue for Yam Mee Teochew Fishball Noodles at Kovan food centre. After tasting their fishball noodles, we would say that the queue was definitely worth it! We were quick to slurp down the springy meekia which was coated with the perfect blend of soy sauce, chilli, vinegar, and pork lard. We feel that the noodles are best eaten together with the minced meat and fishball in one big mouthful to experience the explosion of flavours from all the ingredients! We will definitely join the queue for this comforting bowl of noodles again if we are in the area next time. For all the east siders, do you know that there is another branch that is run by the owner's daughter at Bedok 511 food centre? If you happen to be in the area, do support this aspiring young hawker by giving this wonderful bowl of fishball noodles a try!
This meal can be counted as our very first encounter with Mexican food. When we first arrived at the restaurant, we were pretty much clueless as to what to order! The place serves tacos, quesadillas, ensaladas, and some pretty interesting concoctions. We eventually settled for the single serve tacos with these fillings - crispy fish fillet, grilled barramundi and pulled pork. I enjoyed the fish fillet the most as the skin was super crispy while the fish was firm. Overall, the fillings were pretty well-done but we felt that the tacos might be a bit too dry to our liking. Adding some sauce would probably help. The entire meal felt very serene as we simply ate and enjoyed the scenic view overlooking the MBS. You can take a stroll along the river to the nearby Merlion Park after dinner to burn away some calories and enjoy the wonderful view that comes along. If you ask us, Super Loco is definitely a good place for a date night ~ ❤️
