Pretty sure these need no introduction. I had the Mango Sticky Rice creamsicle, and was pleasantly delighted at first bite: white chocolate coating with toasted coconut flakes and rice puffs. Can't accurately describe the ice cream; coconut milk ice cream with a generous amount of fresh mango chunks, and some sticky rice. Excuse my inability to do this creamsicle justice with words, but like. It's so good that you just gotta have one all to yourself.
Man, this was sublime. Texture was akin to that of cottage cheese, but with a lighter taste. The pickled onions and cherry tomatoes added acidity and brightened the dish, which was great because a hearty serving of cheese can get monotonous. This was so good, the table next to us ordered a second serving 😋
Late to the party, I know. But finally tried Kok Sen and this brimming plate of gravy-laden hor fun with fresh, succulent prawns is so worth the wait (and calories). Tried the prawn omelette too and although it could have been less oily, it was the bomb diggity 😋
Save the soggy bun at the bottom (not even sure why), this was pretty good. Wasn't a fan of the chimichurri but maybe because I didn't eat the entire burger together (small mouth problems), I couldn't taste if the flavours melded. Loved the bacon but i think if eaten with the cheese, it might have been too salty. Expected more from boCHINche given the price and what I've read, but alas. My friend had the ossobucco with poached eggs and didn't like it. I would rather have spent my money at Common Man just right below.
Pictures are often deceiving. Sometimes food looks really good but turns out underwhelming. Then there are those humble-looking dishes that pack a whole lot of flavour and this plate of hokkien mee is a perfect example. Had to order it when I found out that Nam Sing was open, since it's only been open like twice out of the countless times I've been. Favourite plate of hokkien mee - al dente mee, tender squid, good amount of zhap. Make sure you squeeze a lime (or two) to cut the heaviness.
Gotta eat at the right places when eating out since so many vastly overpriced places serve such mediocre food.
My passion for Mexican food runs deep and I wish the food scene here was huge on Mexican food like in the States, but sadly it isn't. Was on the hunt for masa harina to recreate tacos at home and a google search led me to Belmonte. Headed to pick up a tortilla press and couldn't resist trying their tacos because. You know.
TL;DR version: I have found legit tacos and everyone should go try this. Albeit heavier (compared to those I had in Mexico) because they're loaded with rice/refried beans and the proteins are doused in a heavier sauce, the flavour is spot on. The smell is also 👌👌
It's a little out of the way and Belmonte isn't a restaurant, but at $10 for 3, just have a quick meal or grab and go! (You can sit in actually. Plus points for the owner being really nice 😊) They have popsicles as well which I will try when I return (yes, planning for it even though I just left).
Just look at that pork crackling. So juicy, so fatty, so crispy, so much 😍 And dat sourdough. 'Cause it's quite dense, this sandwich is extremely filling! I dream about that pork.
Okay, I really tried to make this photo look better but this is the best I can do. (What is this bland looking bowl of indecipherable stuff right.) Exactly what I thought when my it arrived on the table, but this was surprisingly good. I can't remember the name, but it's basically crushed ice with bits of frozen fresh longan, topped with nata de coco and uhh something else that's delicious. Super refreshing and light, I couldn't stop myself from shoveling spoon after spoon into my mouth. Go for the mango desserts if you're here, they're fresh, sweet and you will definitely regret it if you don't.
Capital Cafe dishes out scrambled eggs that many say rival Australia Dairy Co's, but I didn't think so. Texture-wise they're similar, but taste-wise not at all. Capital's version has an eggier taste and is less savoury, which is great if that's what you prefer, but I don't. It really is up to personal preference. I thought the peanut butter toast was just average as well. But the condensed milk buns were really good. So good that I wanted to order a second serving but my stomach couldn't be stretched any further.
Don't expect good service here, but expect very good scrambled eggs. The last time I was in Hong Kong, I ate this 3 times. Yes, I like it that much. Don't know what they put in them, but this shit wins me over every single time. They're savoury, fluffy, creamy and slightly undercooked. I will come back for these over and over again, because they're hands down my favourite (in the entire world). I like having the scrambled egg sandwich (eggs between two slices of bread), but you can have the scrambled egg toast (on a slice of bread) if you prefer less carbs. Their steamed puddings aren't spectacular - go to Yee Shun instead. The milk tea here is good as well. Standard breakfast set comes with macaroni in soup, but I suggest you spend your calories elsewhere. Some people prefer Capital Cafe's scrambled eggs, but not me.
Yee Shun Dairy Company serves excellent milk pudding that you can enjoy in a variety of flavours, hot or cold. Tried the original and the one with the ginger juice, and I preferred the original one. Both were really good - super smooth and pleasantly sweet. The chilled pudding makes for a refreshing dessert on a hot summer day. They also have flavours like mango, chocolate and red bean, if you're feeling adventurous.
