Tried out the chirashi bowls here at the newly opened Xchange Chirashi, located just opposite Pasir Panjang Food Centre. While the sashimi slices were decently fresh and sliced quite thick, definitely wished the portions were muchhh bigger considering its original steep price tag - we found the rice layer that was topped with furikake beneath too thin. Would be better too if there was more of a variety of slices!
We had these 1 for 1 with Burpple Beyond and the deal applies to all the donburis on their menu - each of the bowl comes with a side of miso soup.
used the burpple beyond deal to get the set and added on poke (+$3), which came up to approx $10 for each set! they're really generous with the ingredients and poke and there's nothing to gripe about, a pretty decent bowl. heard the pickled watermelon was kinda sus but it actually tasted quite interesting (in a good way to me). slight downside is you don't really get much choice as to what goes in your bowl unlike places like say poke theory but overall cant complain because the price point is really good! would advice to avoid the salsa because it doesn't really fit the poke bowl vibes (but maybe i just am not a huge tomato fan).
It's my 3rd time eating here, and I'd say it's been đŻđŻ Got the Well Done Beef Noodles and one sip of the soup is all it takes & I'm soldddd. Super flavourful and delicious savory broth, paired together with chewy rice noodle.. hard to go wrong đ„Čđ€€
Love their variety of dishes, affordable and the flavour.
Feature Bun Bo Hue.
Beef and pork Leg rice noodle soup.
The broth not too spicy (I still add chilli to it), balance between salty sweet with umami flavour, served with tender beef and pork Leg.
Definitely perfect dish for raining day.

I got the Sanshoku Chirashi for $17.90. Worth the price, huge chunks of salmon and seafood which were super fresh and didnât have the fishy taste at all. Really tender too. 5/5, will come back here again to try their other menu items!
This place is known for its chirashi don since their early days in sushiro before they got rebranded to OmotĂ©. This bowl of chirashi comes with really good quality and a fresh assortment of marinated diced seafood. It has a mix of fresh seafood such as prawns, octopus, salmon, squid, swordfish and tuna. The sweet and savoury sauce used to marinate/drizzle on rice was delicious. The portion of seafood given was definitely great for the price paid. This has got to be one of the most value for money chirashi don ă$18.80
Munchi offers a huge selection of MJK in original, charcoal and green tea skin with a choice of fillings such as peanut, coconut, red bean and sesame. Other than MJK, they also have pancakes with a more variety of fillings like Belgian chocolate, cream cheese, honey cheese, ice cream, mao shan wang, matcha, oreo cheese and Thai milk tea.
The usual peanut MJK consist of ground peanut and sugar but over at munchi, they use housemade peanut butter that is chunky and crunchy. Other than the colour, there isnât much taste to the charcoal flavoured skin. I like the soft, fluffy and chewy skin when goes together with the thick and rich peanut filling makes it a very satisfying snack ă$1.30
If there is a reason to head up north, it must be to get a slice of @munchidelights awesome min jiang kuehs.
Munchi has 3 crust flavours --- original, green tea and charcoal. I personally like the green tea crust as there is subtle bittersweet hint of the green tea in the soft and chewy crust.
You also get to choose from a variety of fillings. I am pretty old school and usually opt for their peanut filling. It isnt too sweet and is quite crunchy. Just be careful not to bite too hard cos I cracked a filling recently having a slice of this!
Pictured here is the Blacked Chicken Bao, 1/3 of the Baos you get to choose from a selection of 8.
Taste: Bombz - chicken was super supple on the inside and crisp on the outside
For the lunch set youâll get a salad side, a drink and 3 baos of your choice!
Another microwave-and-ooze matcha bread and this time it's pure matcha lava without chocolate etc. This is one GAO filling that is umami packed and you can really taste that it's made of premium matcha powder đ„șđ slightly on the pricier side compared to DONQ but if you want just matcha without chocolate then you can give this a try! :")

Its been a long long time ever since I made my last visit to Old Hen Coffee â the last time being even before this thing called âCOVID-19â actually existed; definitely miss those times where one could head out without actually wearing a mask, and it feels like this ânew normâ has already been this way for a while.
Having seen Old Hen Coffee Barâs updated menu via their social media pages, I was really attracted to the Brownie Affogato â a relatively new item being introduced to the menu (at least to me) that is exclusively available at Old Hen Coffee Bar (i.e. their original space at 88 Rangoon Road). Those whom have been following my Instagram feed for a while may have come across the âBittersweetâ from Percolate, and the same conceptual ideas have brought upon the Brownie Affogato here at Old Hen Coffee Bar â brownie, served with a scoop of Vanilla ice-cream over the top, and with a shot of espresso served on the side to be poured atop the scoop of Vanilla ice-cream for maximum enjoyment.
There is something about how simple this dessert may be in terms of its set up, but takes into consideration more details than one might think. The brownie here comes all fudgy; served warm, its rich, dense and chocolatey â glad how this does not burn the throat and is nowhere near being heaty. The Vanilla ice-cream is where the details lie; considering it has to be served atop a warm slab of brownie, and also doused with warm espresso atop, the ice-cream has to be served chilled, and should not melt too easily to end up in a mosh due to the warm elements around it â the Vanilla ice-cream here stays true to those concerns, and holds much of its integrity down to the last morsel whilst slowly infusing itself into the espresso as it gently melts to the heat of the surrounding elements and climate. With that, the flavours of all the elements in the Brownie Affogato melds into one; the bittersweetness of the brownie along with a slight hint of saltishness from the sea salt, the aromatic vanilla beans of the smooth and creamy Vanilla ice-cream, and the roasty, earthy notes of the espresso shot comes together as one â almost akin to having a brownie with ice-cream and a cuppa on the side.
Being the first specialty cafe to have launched bottled cold brews, Old Hen Coffee Bar has since become an established name in the local coffee scene. Whilst they have expanded their operations into Old Hen Kitchen several years ago, Old Hen Coffee Bar has always been seen as a more down-to-earth establishment with its more earnest food offerings that does away with the fussy fusion elements in cafe offerings of the modern day coffeehouse. No doubt the food offered may not be quite as adventurous or even interesting as some may say, but Old Hen Coffee Bar is a spot I would return to when looking for a safe option that I know I would leave satisfied.
