Cozy Izakaya in CBD Visited this place for a weekend dinner and loved how cozy the restaurant was, great for date night or casual dinner! Personally, I enjoyed how refreshing the tako wasabi was — wasabi was strong but not overpowering and the octopus bits had a good crunch, adding a nice texture to the dish. Tried their mini don series too, spicy salmon don was fresh and creamy and for the gyu-don, the beef was well flavoured. Their chicken karaage was crispy and very juicy on the inside, a must try when you visit!

Another visit here again! This cozy restaurant is a frequent hangout spot for me. The Tori Karaage is a must-try, crispy yet juicy on the inside. They also have an affordable Mini Don series and great-tasting alcohol. Love the flavors and the warm ambiance here.

cosy japanese restaurant nice chill ambience. everything we got was a hit! ordered the rosti mentai, kani gratin, akagi udon, tempura set, oden. tempura batter was nice and crispy, didnt feel too oily at all.

Oyakodon 14++ Good as ever, take note it's very hot so don't mix the egg yolk in too quickly else it gets cooked and you lose abit of the creaminess

Weekend High Tea Buffet ($22.80++) Recently, my friend and I indulged in a weekend high tea buffet serving Peranakan cuisine, and we left feeling happily full. From the atmosphere and costs to the food, every aspect was justifiable. It was the most valuable buffet compared to their normal weekday and weekend buffets, as it was the cheapest of the three and served almost all the dishes. The buffet featured finger foods like DIY Kueh Pie Tee, allowing you to make your own pie tee with a mountainous topping. Another unique item was Chempedak Fritter, a fruit fritter tasting similar to jackfruit. They also offered standard dim sum items. The mains included Nonya Mee Siam, Laksa, Nasi Lemak, and sides like Fried Chicken Wings, Babi Ponteh Kong Bak Pau, Sambal Telor, and Sambal Lady's Finger. I particularly enjoyed the Fried Chicken Wings; the marination was deep, and the wings were fried to a perfect golden brown, with an aroma that lingered from the meat to the bone. They were so good that I had quite a large plate of them. The Laksa was another pleasing dish, with its smooth, creamy, and coconutty curry complemented by dried shrimp chili, making it a wonderfully fragrant and slurpy delight. Unfortunately, the Babi Ponteh was a tad salty and the meat wasn't tender enough, and the Mee Siam was also somewhat salty. For desserts, I tried some Kueh, which were quite normal to me, but I'm not a fan of Kueh, so I can't comment much. The Pulut Hitam was rich, thick, and creamy but tasted slightly burnt, possibly due to inconsistent stirring. Chilled Soya Beancurd and Lemongrass Jelly with Aloe Vera were pure bliss. The watermelon was sweet and juicy. They also offered Mingo Ice Cream. Coffee, tea, and cold drinks of the day were included in the buffet. Giod Value For Money There are some hits and misses. But overall, I would say the food is decent for the price we pay after burpple discount. We liked the kueh pie tie nonya food rojak, lemongrass chicken wing and beef rendang. Nice quiet place inside NUS.

Fungi risotto While they were generous with the mushrooms, the risotto tasted a tad too uncooked to our liking. Suggest to give this a miss!

Carbonara Lucca's Trattoria has moved from its original spot at Robertson Quay to it's new location in Tiong Bahru (near the Tiong Bahru Market) and the new location is far more spacious now! Furthermore, the outdoor dining area is sheltered so for those of you who choose to dine outdoors, you no longer need to be worried about whether you will lose your table in the event of a downpour. 😁 We decided to try their carbonara and we were rather disappointed at the standard, however. First and foremost, we felt that the pasta used was really thick and too doughy - we suspected that they used spaghettoni although we think spaghetti would have been just right. The pasta also tasted pretty strange because it was rather firm and yet it was a little too thick at the same time, which didn't make the dish too enjoyable. While the gravy was pretty cheesy and decent, we thought that the serving was a little stingy and the restaurant could offer us more gravy to coat the pasta with. Lucca's Trattoria uses bacon strips that were 50% meat and 50% fats, and we absolutely loved the fats although some of us may find the bacon a little too gelat after a while given that they are pretty fatty. Nonetheless, we don't think the dish was worth the $26++ that we paid and we would be better off trying their other pastas or pizzas instead. 😰

Carbonara Decided on the carbonara because it came with a chef’s hat! Chef’s recommendation shouldn’t go wrong right? But well.. it really wasn’t the best choice. I’d say, stick to the pizza selections at Lucca’s! The pizzas fared way better than their pastas in my opinion. The spaghetti were a tad thicker than usual - not too sure what’s the pasta type here. Given it’s thickness, it could do with a longer cook time. It was not exactly al-dente. A tad too thick and not as chewy as we would love it to be. While the cream was great, the bacon slices were in a 50-50 ratio of meat and fats. It’s great at the first few bites but it does get cloying and exceptionally filling after some time. I’ve definitely tasted better carbonara elsewhere and unfortunately the rendition here doesn’t provide the same satisfaction as the others did.

Fresh & quality seafood at decent price point This place is a hidden gem on the second floor of international building . We did e sushi buffet n left the selection to the chef who fed us a wide selection of amazing sushi . We had seconds of what each of us loved , cod , swordfish , yellowtail , scallop. Really fresh n excellent quality . Definitely will go back .

Omakase Sushi Buffet Value for $ as u will be served a variety of sushi.We leave it to the chef to decide on the sushi. Just that the pacing of the sushi is a bit off at times. The first sushi is aburi then the lighter flavored sushi at the end. It appears that the chef seemed to give cheaper version of sushi first and by the time We are too full for the higher end sushi. Overall, we will still visit the place as we find the sushi is pretty decent and it is a good place to address sushi craving.

Sushi Kanazawa 4⭐ Get to know this sushi restaurant from Ricecookerman IG and I saw photo of celebrities visiting this restaurant. Made reservation for their weekday lunch buffet $31.90++ as the restaurant can only accommodate ~ 10 diners. They turn away quite a few diners who walk in as it was fully reserved for lunch today. At first we ate the sushi which the chef prepared but towards the end when we are extremely full, we ordered those which we wanted to eat. I ate a total of 17 sushi ranging from the more common ones such as salmon, maguro, tako, hamachi to the less common ones such as arkshell, surf clam, white tuna, flying fish, gizzard shad. The quality of sushi is 👍🏼 but this is a no frill place so don't expect excellent service from the server. #SushiKanazawa #SushiBuffet

Truffle cream pasta Honestly, it was pretty creamy but the bell peppers definitely covered the taste of the truffle. All I could taste was the cream and pepper, but I don’t mind cos it’s still quite tasty 🙂 I think it was $16.90 but yay to burpple 1-for-1

Kimchi Jjigae Ramyeon ($11.50) I opt out for korean ramyeon as noodle, slice of cheese and less spicy for kimchi Jjigae. I don't really take too much spicy for food also and also preferred less spicy as possible. But I felt that their ingredients really full of different types of mushroom and rice cake.

Lots of variety We were spoilt with choices as their menu offers a wide variety. I will return to try more!

Rainy Day Soup I am back for more fishhead soup. The soup is my fave and to go orders. This time we also ordered the pork belly. You will definitely need to eat this dish with rice. Because the fermented beans are rather strong. Most folks would be happy with the taste. But I am cutting down on salt so I am accustomed to bland foods unfortunately for me.

Soothing Soup We ordered the fishhead snapper steamboat. The soup is comforting and soothing. Couldn't stop drinking loads. Wished the portions of meatballs were more 3 of us had 1 each. The duck fritters is quite decent and flavourful, while the brinjal fritters were nice and crispy. In short, all the dishes we ordered were quite tasty. Would be making another visit to try the other dishes.

Sixties Fish Head Charcoal Steamboat. This is served with all-natural collagen soup simmered over charcoal for 10 hours using a family secret recipe. 🔸 Other highlights of their menu include Wok Fried Fine Beans, which is an amalgation of fine bean, dried cuttlefish, Chinese sausage, and Chye Poh Head. 🔸 My personal favorite is the Ginger Spring Chicken, which is steamed with hand-cut ginger. The meat remains juicy with a fragrance abd sweetness from the ginger, without heat. I suppose it's young ginger that's used. 🔸 The Papa's favourite Pig Trotter is also soft and tender, as I was told it was braised over low heat and steeped with the fragrant flavors of soy sauce. 🔸 There's 20% off and free islandwide delivery until 30 June 2020. A Little More Flavour Please Nice ambience and great service! Ordered six tapas for dinner with husband and it was quite filling. The flavours were quite simple and a little too subtle, e.g. the octopus was served with a piquillo sauce but I could barely taste it, the bikini sandwich was not bad but we couldn’t taste the jamon, the prawns (pictured) were just one-note. Love the laid back ambience though and would visit again to try their paella and other mains. Our server Izzue was really friendly too. Berenjena A La Manchego ($14++ U.P.), Pulpo De La Casa ($18/$36++ U.P.); On Burpplebeyond I actually thought repeatedly about the homemade coca bread with chorizos, I had when I was here with Mum, which made me very determined about a return visit. Was very glad that the other seafood tapas I’d introduce the rest of the family to for the first time were great Spanish tapas in our metropolitan little red dot. First was this bulbous stuffed squid that was well handled with some salivating chorizo bechamel; an absolute flavour party on the palate. The classic grilled octopus tapas was another well handled seafood with a generous large dash of white bean purée which I’d classify as for the acquired taste. While the eggplant “toast” was outshone by the other tapas, they were comfortingly oily; think straightforward thin slices of the purple fruit with savoury cheese melted atop.
