comparable to the real deal In taiwan! my favourites are the mee sua, dou jiang and crispy bread | ★★★★★
Best breakfast I've ever had! The brioche bread is fluffy and lightly toasted/eggs are thick and delicious/ bacon & sausage both pack lots of flavor/potatoes are soft, hot, and slightly, pleasantly salty/baked beans are also soft, and very tangy. 5 star brekkie! Highly recommended!
I was completely seduced by the voluptuous mascarpone and generous liqueur of this tiramisu. Can't quite believe it's taken me till now to finally taste this but logic puts the blame squarely on the fact that there are simply too many tempting cakes here to choose from.
New item on the Lokal breakfast menu - French toast with caramelized apples and crispy bacons, a perfect marriage of sweet and savory.
Refreshed menu is on its way. Everyone should roll out of bed early for breakfast and brunch.
Beautifully harmonized with sweet red beans and a dollop of mochi. Tasted better than its looks, possibly the Best Matcha Pudding in Singapore.
Stacked together are three very fluffy and light pancakes. IMHO, they are as good as the ones at Strictly Pancakes. Nicely art directed with thin slices of strawberries, a few blueberries and flanked by halves of a banana, the whole effect is really photogenic. I like the scattered bits of sticky honeycomb too; they kind of spring random surprises on you with a rather intensely sweet crunch.
This is vegetarian dialed up to the max! On the serving board is larger-than-life flavours of fried eggplant and cauliflower, homemade hummus, labneh (yogurt cheese), truffled tahini and torn-up pita bread, all tossed together with an Israeli salad and spiced up with a dash of zhoug (a green chilli pepper relish). Adding a finishing touch is the gooey-centred smoked egg. Order this to share if you want to leave room for side dishes (I always get the yummy haloumi cheese) or desserts.
If you haven't tried the Darling's Eggs here, please do yourself a favour and hop on down when you have time. Named after the couple whose cafe in Melbourne the owner of The Plain (and also Ronin) use to work at, the Darling's Eggs is simply very well executed poached eggs on sourdough toast. The sliced sweet tomatoes, melted cheese and ham give this open-faced sandwich wonderful flavours. Pictured above is the half portion which, unless I am starving, is usually enough for me.
Since I am a sucker for avocado, once in a while I'll also cough up $3 more to add some on.
How many times have you ordered a big breakfast at a cafe and ended up not liking every single item on the plate? Exactly. We've all been there, haven't we?
To allow for complete customisation and therefore, higher customer satisfaction, the smart folks at The Lokal designed a section in their menu entitled "Pimp My Breakfast" that lets you choose from 14 different items (eggs done in assorted styles, smoked salmon, smoked mackerel, dry-cured bacon, sausages, homemade ricotta, avocado, chunky fries etc), as well as 3 types of bread and 4 types of spreads.
On my first visit, I pimped my breakfast with fried eggs, sautéed mushroom, wilted spinach and sourdough toast. All this came to slightly less than sixteen bucks. I found the toast to be a bit hard but otherwise, I was more than satisfied with the quality and taste of the food.
If you're in a group, it's kind of cool to order numerous items to share since they offer such a large variety.
At first, I had thought this was a Carrot Cake after misreading the description on the display card. However, the cafe's baker who happened to be standing close by, politely corrected me, and said the magic words, "No, it's a Banana Cake". In an instant, I was all over that display stand like a rabid monkey. Ordered one and without hesitation, burrowed into its dense, moist, banana-rich cakeness. Keeping it extra interesting were small pineapple chunks, a dash of cinnamon and loads of voluptuous cream cheese frosting. I truly enjoyed this, especially since I know for a fact that it is baked in-house.
