this was quality salmon sashimi atop fluffy japanese rice—simple and basic but well-executed. 😋 the sashimi slices were sliced just right (not too thin and not too thick as well) and there was a rather generous amount. the tobiko and tamago were good additions as well, adding texture to the don.

definitely satisfied my sashimi cravings :-,) overall, watami is a good place for quality japanese food at relatively reasonable prices.

this was a limited edition flavour and came with bananas, chia seeds, granola etc. to be honest, was a bit disappointed as the lemon flavour wasn’t very prominent—the açai had more of a honey-lemon flavour to it, and was lacking distinct sour notes. acai was sweet and not too icy, which was nice. opted for almond butter, which was tasted very natural and healthy, being unsweetened with a strong nutty taste.

would say the lemon açai fr another popular açai place is better because it comes with lemon sorbet and thus a stronger lemon flavour 😛 but if you’re not a fan of sour things project acai’s rendition might work for you!

this was the classic beef burger with lettuce, raw red onions, tomatoes and their special sauce. simple but really delicious :-) the beef was well seared, with a natural beefy sweetness. though the patty is not the thick and juicy kind, it is quite big and tender—definitely good beef used.

thought i would miss the cheese that’s normally in burgers, but the tasty, savoury sauce made up for it! the vegetables were fresh and helped to cut the greasiness as well. overall, a really simple burger that’s not greasy and won’t leave you feeling too bloated like many other burger joints. got the sourdough which was soft and fresh, but tasted pretty normal.

would recommend topping up $5 for a side + thirst quencher + hot drink but was too full this time 😢 also the interior is really pretty and naturalesque, with many greens and wooden decor :,)

the roasted bronte pistachio (below) was smooth and creamy, with the sort of natural creaminess from nuts. the pistachio flavour was rich and pronounced, without being too overpowering. quality gelato BUT i wld say not mind-blowing enough to justify its price 😢 (+1.20)

the mango and blood orange sorbet was a citrusy and fruity crowd-pleaser. the texture of the sorbet was quite different from the pistachio gelato—the sorbet was considerably less creamier but rather, light and refreshing. ps. this flavour is vegan!

it is pricey but you’re definitely paying for quality here :”) would come back!

the pancakes were soft and fluffy as well as light without being too airy! they were sufficiently thick as well to make for a good bite 😋 got the mango flavour, which came with a generous serving of mangoes and fresh cream. really good dessert to satisfy one’s sweet tooth. a little pricey though, for the 2-piece portion (which is good for one!)

a bowl of hearty beef noodles, with a strong beef-flavoured broth and slices of tender beef. the broth was really flavour-packed and delicious, and made for a very satisfying meal!

thai milk tea was not bad, rather sweet though.

really sad they removed their $1.90 boat noodles though, which allowed me to get both the beef noodles & the tomyum :-(

a thick cut of steak that was hearty and juicy. no doubt a satisfying, quality steak which one would expect, though not mind-blowing. had it medium rare, which was just nice for a tender and juicy steak. the potatoes and greens accompanied the meat well.

note: think this was part of the august’19 lunch menu!

for $6, you get a hearty bowl of biang biang noodles, egg tomato stir-fry, sliced cucumbers and meat. really simple, yet really tasty! the noodles are definitely the star here—they are about twice or thrice the width of your average ban mian and have a really nice chew. the sides complemented the noodles well, with the tomatoes and egg providing a dash of sweetness and the crunchy cucumbers adding texture. a simple but satisfying meal 😋

this was really scrumptious—the crispy, perfectly deep-fried prawns were coated with creamy wasabi aioli for a bit of heat, and then topped with beads of tobiko. prawn was fresh and juicy, and wasabi seemed rather fresh as well, with a heat that elevated the flavour of the dish rather than being overpowering. probably one of the better renditions of deep fried wasabi prawns out there 😛

these were stir-fried squid ink fish noodles! noodles were chewy and soft, almost resemblant of fish cakes. squid ink flavour wasn’t too strong or overpowering. the noodles complemented the vegetables and scallops well. overall, a really unique dish!

very unique dish, nothing quite like anything i’ve seen before! taste-wise, it was slightly underwhelming; charcoal flavour was barely discernible.

overall a pretty decent meal, peking duck was crispy and really succulent — the hallmark of a good chinese restaurant.

had a lovely dinner here. all the dishes were well-executed with balanced flavours and decent portion sizes. very unique, authentic shanghainese dishes not easily found in singapore. one of my favourite, if not my favourite, chinese fine dining places in sg.

must orders:
- smoked duck with tea leaves
- sauteed shrimp with honey pea in black truffle oil (though a bit pricey)

special mentions:
- lotus root stuffed with glutinous rice
- pig’s ear
- roast duck
- red dates stuffed with glutinous rice 👍🏻✨
