Cosy hangout place with excellent service - I had the pesto and mozzarella sourdough with sweet potato fries, as well as a hot mocha. The food was excellent and I enjoyed it thoroughly - will be back again in future!
I feel like Mama Diam should really be more popular, and people should be raving about their food as much as their drinks, because the food was fantastic!
We had a huge variety of dishes - the soft shell crab bao, chicken curry kueh pie tee, ābak chorā fries, salted egg lotus root chips, hae bee hiam mien and kaya churros.
The crab bao and the kueh pie tee were the stand-outs to me, really special and tasted different. All the other items were great too, save for the hae bee hiam mien that had an odd lingering aftertaste - I think the truffle was too strong.
The drinks were great as well; I had a calamansi and peach cocktail, which wasnāt too sweet and really packed a punch.
Youād probably need to make reservations, but itās well worth it - sitting outdoors would be charming, since itāll be with the backdrop of the mama shop exterior, but thereās air-conditioning inside, although itās a little dark.
Aesthetic place that is more than just aesthetics alone!
Been meaning to try out this place in Upper Thompson because itās slightly less expensive when compared to giants like Columbus and Hello Arigato in the neighborhood.
Iām glad I finally got around to it, because the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benny was much better than I expected, especially for the price ($16.90)! The poached eggs were sufficiently runny, and the portion was fairly large. On a whole, I thought the dish tasted quite good.
The latte was also decent, slightly cheaper than the normal cafe fare as well. Unfortunately I couldnāt try their famous smoked duck spaghetti, which Iāve eaten many years ago in the Ci Yuan branch.
Worth a visit - if I ever come back to this āhood, Iāll be happy to return here for lunch again!
This is a hidden gem in Kampong Glam - relatively quiet and cosy environment, with authentic and ornate decor that spans two floors in an old shophouse. Perfect for tourists and locals alike; an Instagram-worthy place as well!
Prices are quite affordable, and the Peranakan food was authentic and tasty. We shared the buah keluak chicken, Nonya chap chye, homemade ngor hiang and tahu telur. All of the dishes were great, esp. the tahu telur and Nonya chap chye.
This place also takes reservations, and the wait staff are helpful and can take good photos for you too (: Greatly recommended - will be back for future visits!
I love the pasta here - my friend and I both had the crab meat with pink sauce, and we could select from a range of pasta types. The mushroom soup is delectable too!
The actual place itself is a bit tight, with tables quite close to each other, but service is prompt and responsive and even friendly. The only thing is that the prices might be a little steep. However, itās still worth paying a visit to, especially if youāre in the mood for a fancier meal :-)
Cali is a nice and cosy place to share a meal, even on a Saturday night, as itās not crowded. We had the pepperoni pizza, which was standard fare, and the smoked duck carbonara, which wasnāt overly creamy and gelat. The truffle fries were really good (my fave) and topped off the whole meal.
It was worth it as we had the Entertainer 1-for-1 deal, if not it might be a little pricey. Good to pay a visit if there are promos on!
(To note, the Entertainer 1-for-1 deals are on the pasta, burgers, fajitas and pizza.)
I love Timbre @ Arts House! The vibes are off the charts, and the live band often takes song requests; they are quite versatile and know a wide range of songs. The location is charming, since it overlooks the river.
As usual too, the duck pizza is really pretty good; Iād say itās the best thing on the menu and itās also what theyāre most known for. Be sure to try their duck pizza if youāre at Timbre!
I was sourcing for good places to go to on the Entertainer, and my friend recommended this. Iām glad I checked this out - tucked away on a quiet inner street somewhere in Kembangan, it would have been easy to miss!
While the food doesnāt look particularly aesthetically appealing (and my photo-taking skills leave much to be desired), it tasted very, very good, esp. for the 1-for-1 half price on the Entertainer! We had the beef ragout pasta and BBQ pork ribs with sweet potato fries. The meat was tender, the sauces great and the fries absolutely divine.
Will definitely pay this place a visit again sometime, and introduce this to friends too! :)
This place was recommended by one of my foodie friends! While I donāt particularly like steamboat, I found myself really enjoying the food at this one, as the soup base (signature soup base) was tasty, the service was good, and the food we ordered came fairly quickly.
Would recommend this place; the prices were still fairly reasonable although just a little bit to the expensive side - we spent about $50/pax.
Itās been a long time since Iāve been to Arteastiq, be it the Jewel or Plaza Sing branches. However, I visited the one at Jewel again recently, and was pleasantly surprised and pleased to know theyāve kept their standards high still!
I had my go-to, the crabcake breakfast, and it was very well-executed as usual, although Iām not sure if the portion has shrunk slightly over the years. We also had the honey chicken mid-joint wings, which was some of the best wings Iāve tasted in a while!
Will always be recommending Arteastiq, although itās a bit on the pricier range :)
I recently tried the fan favorite of Surrey Hills Grocer, the king prawn laksa linguine! The portion was very generous and frankly quite huge - this version of the dish offers a more dry laksa take, rather than the thick coconut-ty sauce of other laksa linguines.
It was fairly nice, with quail eggs and taupok (like any usual laksa), but I still prefer the thick laksa sauce of Cherki (see other review on Cherki food). This really depends on a personās individual preference for either dry or āwetā laksa!
At $29, the price of this laksa linguine is also quite steep. Cherkiās laksa crab linguine is $20 for their lunch set, which comes with side dishes and a drink, so I couldnāt help but compare the two. However, this king prawn laksa linguine was still worth a try!
Was introduced to this place by a foodie friend, and three of us had the lunch set (price starting at $20; to add extra for certain sides and drinks, and also dessert!)
The laksa crab linguine and the sambal crab fried rice were recommended by the waiter, and with good reason. The laksa was thick and substantial; the linguine texture was pretty good too, although it was a bit hard to taste the crab in the dish. The sambal crab fried rice was pretty special too! Very well-recommended as we could get two sides + 1 drink per lunch set - worth it!
We also had the famous truffle duck popiah; it was a large portion but very, very good. Iāve visited this place again recently with another friend, and will be back next time :)
(To note: Only the a la carte mains, not the a la carte specialities, apply for the 1-for-1 main course deal on the Entertainer. If the specialities were applicable, we would have gone for the lobster laksa linguine instead!)
