Spot this vegetarian chapfan stall deep inside the Kwai Sun Restaurant in SS15. The vegetarian chapfan stall serves about 20 variety of vegetarian dishes you can choose from, just point out which one you are craving for and the friendly auntie will scoop for you :)

They also serve fried mee hoon and noodle besides rice. I chose to have rice today and decided to pick vegetarian charsiew, steam potatoes, fu chuk and hard boiled egg (RM8) as my lunch companion. I also ask the auntie to "flood" my rice with curry. But to my disappointment the curry (and the dishes I chose) wasn't hot at all 😞 In general the chapfan is nothing to shout about but it is good for you that just want to have a quick lunch in SS15. Price wise it's kinda pricey for a vegetarian chapfan in my opinion πŸ˜… Mind you that parking is never easy in SS15...

I came to visit this humble Hakka restaurant for dinner. Located in the quiet part of Puchong, we are greeted with the owner’s wife warm welcome. This restaurant is owned by a Hakka chef, so the food in here is packed with 100% authentic Hakka goodness! The owner’s wife recommended to order the popular abacus yam dish, but I choose to differ XD

In the end I ordered Braised Pork Meat with Red Yeast Rice (RM23/small) that come with a soft, fluffy, warm homemade bun (pau). I don’t usually fancy eating too much pork meat chunks in one go, but this one is irresistible! The meat are supposed to be eaten with the pau, so you’ll have to stuff the meat (don’t forget the sauce! that is the bomb!) into the pau and savour! Meat are very tender, some of them still have the juicy layer of fats but that’s what make the whole dish savoury. The red yeast rice is added to give out the rich umami taste. Topped with dried sotong stripes, this dish is definitely what you should order other than the (mainstream) abacus yam! πŸ˜„ (tip: the meat is great with bowl of warm rice too! remember to drizzle the sauce all over your rice though!!)

Another dish I order was the Spicy XO Taufu ( RM17/small). The taufu portion is quite decent for a small serving. It’s basically deep fried tofu topped with spicy XO sauce (taste more like udang belacan to me, but it’s really good too!), served with stir fried french beans in the middle. I would say the tofu was kinda oily to my liking, but the oiliness is not major that it disturbed the taste.

They also serves homemade desserts such as red bean tongsui, chestnut tongsui, etc. I decided to order one bowl of the cooling chestnut tongsui (RM4.8), which is served with chestnut chunks and silky egg strings. It’s kinda weird for me to eat cold tongsui with egg at first, but actually I can’t really taste the egg taste in the end and it was really cooling and refreshing!

Overall: will definitely come back for their Hakka food!

Located at road side of busy Old Klang Road, use Google Map instead of Waze and slow down when you see a row of shop lots (this restaurant is located beside a mini market and funeral supplies store).

We ordered one bowl of dry bakuteh and claypot soup bakuteh (RM14 each). The soupy one has a nice herbs aroma and tasted light (slightly watery in my opinion), however it came with a generous serving of lean pork meat chunks. I like their dry bakuteh one better (served with generous chunks of pork meat too), but in general I would still prefer to go back to SS14 Yu Kee Bakuteh to have my next dose of bakuteh πŸ˜…

Unfortunately they only serve plain white rice (not the oil rice), but they do have special rice (RM1.3/ bowl. Nice fluffy rice with lovely flavour from the dark soy sauce and long bean.

Tip: order a bowl of char kuey, soak it in the bakuteh soup, savour your rice with the soggy char kuey! It's always a mandatory routine for me every time i have bakuteh meal πŸ˜‚

Located deep inside Jalan Pasar, after spending some time to research on the exact location (tip: use Google map instead of Waze, it's the house right next beside 99 Speedmart), we finally managed to find this pork noodle spot. Location wise is kinda tricky because this shop do not have any banner, it's run by a family that serves pork noodle for their customer with the convenience of their own house space (tip: the house number is 27).

Ordered soupy pork noodle, the broth is the bomb for cold rainy days.. satisfying and comforting at the same time. My favourite part is slurping the runny egg yolk with their broth. You can also choose whether or not to add taufupok and dumpling to your bowl of pork noodle. The dumpling is handmade, stuffed with cilantro, radish and more fish meat inside, do have a try ;)

I've always pass by this particular shop lot row in Taipan but never noticed this restaurant, until one day.. and I decided to give it a try since I have quite big appetite for Nyonya food lately 😁

Decided to give the "Dried" Assam Siakap fish ("dried" is actually means fried fish! RM40). It's basically deep fried Siakap fish topped with those thick, savoury, tangy and sweet Nyonya Assam sauce with tomatoes, onions and chopped chillies. I never tried Assam Fried Fish before (as it's more common to have Assam steamed fish in most tai chau places) and don't know why but I was instantly sold off with the sauce, the taste combo is just perfect with the fried fish taste and its crunchy texture!

The staff also recommended to get their Petai Udang (RM17), they were kind enough to served "naked prawns" (they plucked off all the prawn's skin and tail before serving it, because sometimes you're just that lazy πŸ˜‚). Loaded with lots of petai (stinky beans) all over, the prawn serving is really really little (I think only 4-5 pcs 😭). The sauce and the stinky beans were amazing but definitely the whole portion of the petai prawn serving was not worth the price πŸ™

I chose stir fried potato leaves (RM12) for the dose of greens, nothing to shout about, just like an ordinary 'garlicky' stir fried potato leaves.

To be honest this was my first time trying out Kari Kepala Ikan menu and it's not disappointing at all! We were quite dilemma on what to oder but the friendly Chinese staff happily guided us and recommend us their best dishes.

We ordered their Kari Kepala Ikan (of course) (RM43) and the Fish Maw Tofu (RM20) as companion. We ordered 2 servings of white rice and (luckily*) the rice is served in a rice bucket so that we could take as much as we want.
*luckily= because apparently we couldn't stop adding rice to our plate, the fish curry was tooo irresistible!!!

The curry is the taste of thick Chinese curry, served piping hot and trust me, once you scoop those fragrant smelling curry in top of your white rice, you will not be able to stop eating! The curry was served with long beans and lady finger as vegetable (we wanted to order another serving of vegetables but the staff said it was not necessary). Overall their foods were served in quite decent portions.

Coming to the Fish Maw Tofu, thick gravy, savoury tofu. Savoury enough that you may feel that it's kinda salty when you eat it on its own without rice. They were quite generous with the fish maw though...

In the end of our meal, their staff served us with free chrysanthemum jelly as a dessert πŸ˜† so healthy and refreshing!

For a perfect sunny day brunch meal, here's the place. Cosy-ly decorated modern cafe with a huge bear doll and "queen" chair is perfect for your weekend friend gathering event or when you just wanting to get a hip Instagram worthy weekend photos.

All food and beverage orders must be done in the cashier inside. We decided to order Egg Benedict with Chicken Ham and Smoked Salmon (RM13) and Big Breakfast (RM16). Personally I fell in love with their Egg Benedict menu. Served with thick slice of toast and topped with 2 "lava" egg benedict that can pop and melt in your mouth. It's not a "jelak" meal after all, in fact I have no problem in gulping it all down by myself! The key is in the lemon juice. They use lemon juice to complement the egg yolk sauce that drenching the toast, combination of tangy and savoury taste from the sauce is just πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Nothing much to shout about the Big Breakfast, the portion is quite huge with lots of protein to satisfy those starving brunch tummy.

For the drink, the staff recommended flower tea to me which I agreed on to give their Lohas Goji Berry Tea (Rm13) a try. Served in a beautiful glass pot, the tea is freshly brewed before your eyes with all natural ingredients such as rose buds, goji berry and dried longan. It was a comforting and refreshing drink at the same time :) Their Matcha Soymilk (RM12 - cold) is also something that you may want to give a try, definitely not your ordinary green tea latte. The soymilk flavour is there but not too prominent.

We decided to end our brunch by ordering one scoop of Kapiti Ice Cream -Black Doris Plum flavour (RM8.5). I chose this flavour because it's a flavour that quite uncommon and it apparently awarded as the best flavour of 2016. You may want to give it a try (with some waffle maybe? πŸ˜€ but it's also good on its own). Served with roasted coconut flakes, it gonna left you with the happy tummy afterwards ❀️

Here's to an awesome Indonesian food nostalgic moments! One word: SUPERB!

Being an Indonesian growing up in Malaysia makes me crave for homey Balinese foods sometimes. And here it is! Bumbu Bali is where you would want to savour good Balinese food with romantic ambience and Balinese decoration that will make you feel like in Bali (for real, they make it so alike traditional restaurants in Bali). Anniversary with your husband/wife/bf/gf? Bring them here, here's the place you would want to be!

Their menu used a lot of Balinese terms for the food (dont worry, they have the English description below), makes me feel like even like at home. We ordered their famous Chicken Nasi Campur (RM37, portion is quite big!) which is the combination between lemongrass grilled chicken, prawns, fish and squid, fish satay (this one is really special) and served with Indonesian spicy Sambal Terasi (prawn paste chili) and Sambal Matah (onion chili paste). If you happen to visit and indecisive of what to order, order this one instead, you won't regret it :)

They have Tipat Cantuk (RM19) also here! It is usually called Tipat Cantok in Bali, is Balinese warm vegetable salad with grilled chicken, fried tofu, hard boiled egg and rice cakes, drenched in peanut tamarind sauce. This one is also Balinese specialty that you would want to try ;)

For those that craving for some finger foods, try ordering the Cumi Cumi Goreng (RM19), it's actually fried calamari rings and fried potato chunks served with the in-house tartar cream sauce (I always think that this is a perfect snack to munch on after swimming πŸ˜‚)

Drinks! You gotta try their Kopi Apokat (RM15), served in a fancy glass with a shot of coffee, it's basically thick, creamy avocado juice that you rarely can find in Malaysia. Must try. Ice blended Pulut Hitam (RM12) is basically black glutinous rice juice (oh I looveee black glutinous rice 😍), unique tasting and potentially quite filling πŸ™ƒ, a must try too!

Overall: I will definitely come back for a good dose of Balinese food πŸ‘πŸ»

Located in one of the shop lot rows in Bandar Puteri, Old Friend Hong Kong Dimsum is a hidden gem for me. I've been here for the 2nd time and being served with healthy choices of dimsum. I wouldn't say that the dimsum variety is much, but whatever they served is definitely healthy and they use lots of veggie as their dimsum ingredients.

Their dimsum average price is RM5.3 to RM8.3. I ordered basic dimsum must order items such as siew mai, prawn chee chiong fan and chicken feet. The siew mai I would say is one of the best after Jing Xuan's, whereby the chicken feet is quite unique, taste slightly black pepperish and definitely ain't the "commercial" chicken feet that you used to have in other dimsum spot. The chee chiong fan is nothing to brag about, I still prefer the chee chiong fan (and its belacan sambal) in Jing Xuan πŸ˜…But the siew mai and the chicken feet are something that you want to give a try in here :)

The shop is basically a family business. As soon as you sat down, an auntie will come with tray of frozen dimsum baskets, letting you choose whatever you want and she will steam it right away for you. While eating, I saw her husband sat down in one of the table and hand made the dumpling himself!

Note: unfortunately they don't serve Liu Sha Bao (it's my favourite too) because the uncle said it's not good for your heart health πŸ˜–

Tip: cash only, children friendly, finding parking is very easy.

It's been a looong time since I visited Epicuro, and their Buffalo Fries (RM7.8) is still as awesome as before! It's a really MUST TRY food in their menu! πŸ˜† Served with their homemade tartar sauce, their Buffalo Fries made the cut inside the list of food that I ALWAYS order in Epicuro 😌

Today I decided to try something that is less "jelak" so I ordered the Prawn Aglio Olio pasta (RM23.9), served with fat prawns, spinach, lots of cherry tomatoes (yummss), and topped with almond bits! The taste was just a perfect combination between sourish zesty lemon and cherry tomatoes, savoury prawns and crunchy almond pieces. It's definitely a healthier choice rather than the creamy Carbonara pasta (RM19.9). Their Carbonara taste was more of like smoked bacon taste (yes, very strong smokey bacon-y taste, so if you're a big fan of bacon, you'll love this dish), topped with creamy cheese and egg sauce. For me their Carbonara is nothing to shout about, I still prefer the Prawn Aglio Olio and of course don't forget about their Buffalo Fries!!

Before this I was always have this skeptical thinking with Loh Mee, thick vinegarish tasting noodle. It's not the best meal that I would go for if I were to have other choices. But after today, my perception of Loh Mee has changed.

We visited Hock Kee Ulu Yam Loh Mee Restaurant and ordered their Loh Mee (duh? lol RM6.9) and their Homemade Mee Soup (RM6.9). Our dishes came pretty fast in a pretty big portion for one person and I couldn't wait to dig in right away. The Loh Mee gravy wasn't very thick it's rather a bit liquid, nor too vinegarish taste (I don't fancy thick vinegar taste in my meal) which is perfect in my opinion. Scoop on their homemade chili paste inside their small containers and trust me, it'll become the most mind blowing Loh Mee experience you'll ever had!

The Homemade Mee Soup was made using the Loh Mee thick noodle too, rather than using the thick gravy, they use soupy, pepperish tasting pork broth served with handful of veggies and egg inside. It'll make a real perfect "sick day" meal I would say :)

For the drink you might want to give their roselle tea (RM3) a try. Roselle tea tastes a bit sourish and packed with lots of antioxidant. They serves it both warm or cold, with sea bird nest bits that they say is rich in natural collagen 😁

Tip: Cash only, children friendly, non-air-conditioned, finding parking was relatively easy.

Located in Sri Petaling, I never heard of this restaurant before as usually Thai Thai, Absolute Thai, Mr Tuk Tuk, etc are my always go to place for Thai food. After today, Thai U Up is automatically entered inside my list of delicious Thai food that I will visit them again!

The restaurant is decorated in such way that you feel like you're in Thailand, with all those Thai songs and Thailand King pictures all over the wall. The chef does come from Thai (as I heard them speaking Thailand language), so we're talking about real authentic Thai gem here..

I personally have an unconditional love for Pad Thai, so i decided to give their Pad Thai (RM13.9) a try. Wrapped in a thin layer of egg, served with extra lime and taugeh by its side. I'm totally sold off by their Pad Thai! It's one of the best Pad Thai in Malaysia that taste exactly like the one in Bangkok. The trick here is they never serve it with all the condiments, instead they'll give you a bucket of condiments containing sugar, fish sauce, peanuts and dried chili flakes which you would have to put it according to your taste before eating. Their Pad Thai doesn't bear the chef "thumbs" inside the menu, but I would say it is worth to try and you won't regret it!

Next is the Steamed Tilapia with Lime and Chili (RM 52), the flesh is so smooth and the fish complement very well with the garlic, tangy lime and hot chili. The spicy mango salad (RM12.9) is one of their chef special dish that you also should try. Warn you, eat carefully and better not choke on those mango salad because it's quite spicy compared to other mango salad out there..

Their Red Ruby dessert (RM6.9) is also a must try in here! It's also the best tasting Red Ruby that I ever had in Malaysia, plus point is it can help you to cool down the spiciness in your mouth.

Tip: Air conditioned, cash and credit card payment available

Opening hours: 11 am- 11 pm

Parking: relatively easy to find parking in this side of Sri Petaling :)
