Ember 1/2 - Striploin Ember Charcoal Grill specialises in grilled meats using binchotan charcoal. There were also a few Burpple deals available, such as 1-for-1 House Brew and 1-for-1 Croffle. But since we ordered three main courses, the 30% Off Total Bill deal was the most value-for-money. The 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀-𝗳𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗶𝗻 ($25.90) was the star attraction on the menu. It came with a choice of two sides and a sauce. Even though the steak looked the part, with a beautiful pink centre, it was slightly overcooked and was tougher than expected. However the sides were sublime, while the Miso Kombu Butter added a depth of flavours. The Grilled Broccoli, with its crispy edges, was particularly praiseworthy. Ember Classic Waffle This was a surprise to me as I didn’t order it. But they found out this month was my birthday from my reservation on Chope. A complimentary home-made basic waffle in half, served with summer fruits and maple syrup. I definitely love the soft texture of the waffle, paired with the sweetness from the fruits and syrup.

Beef Soon Tofu Set For something branded, surprisingly mediocre. They shout about the tofu but the tofu was actually quite bad. Overall just a typical hawker Korean level. Yes, the seaweed is off the shelf.

Duck Leg Confit Another lunch on weekday. Duck leg confit from Mad Charcoal at Orange Point, served with one side dish, total cost $14.50. Smooth mash.

The smoky grill flavour of the duck leg pairs wonderfully with the buttery smooth mash potato, and the addition of pink slaw adds a refreshing contrast. Chicken Chop Despite its location in an industrial area, it doesn’t stop people from coming here on Saturday lunch time. There’s already a few people like me waiting patiently on Saturday as they get ready to take order right at noon time. If you don’t mind walking, it is a short walk from Yio Chu Kang MRT Station, or hop on bus 268 from Mayflower MRT Station and alight directly in front of the coffee shop. Famous for their western foods that cooked with charcoal. And the generous portion always keep people coming back for more. Go for the set which entitles you one side dish to pair with your choice of meat. I’m wasn’t going for something to heavy, so just take their chicken chop. Which grilles perfectly and so tender. They are nicely cut into pieces so you can enjoy the chicken cop easily. I do agree the portion is generous here and it has accompanied by purple cabbage slaw. Which effectively given you a very refreshing and opening taste on the top of this savoury dish. There’s a few options of side dishes to choose from and i’m personally love their smashed potato.

Double patty beef burger Good value, nice ambience.

Lacklustre Location: Difficult to locate due to the small font on the shop front. The beer board was much larger than their own signage. Food: Ordinary food, not even worth the Burpple discount. Had their Mushroom Swiss Burger and the Signature Rebel Beef Burger. The ingredients listed in the menu and in the burger that arrived seemed different. No salsa or guacamole on the Signature Burger at all. Do not recommend.

Orange Espresso ($6.50) At this void deck café with alfresco seating, Brew & Co. serves up coffee that’s perfect for a leisurely coffee break. My recent visit, however, was slightly ruined by ongoing construction nearby, but I managed to enjoy a quick sip to recharge. Their Orange Espresso is a refreshing blend where sweet citrusy orange juice makes up about 90% of the drink, topped with a shot of espresso. The intriguing combination of two acidic flavours, coffee and orange, somehow harmonises without becoming overly sour. I’m curious if anyone can explain the science behind this beautiful pairing! In terms of flavour, the drink strikes a balance between mild bitterness and moderate sweetness, leaning more towards a juice-like profile than a traditional coffee experience. Skewers (~$1.90 Per Stick) Skewered meat was definitely towards the tough side, I would say that the Bugis outlet is overall better in terms of quality of food, though the seasoning was super salty there. If you would like to try Taan’s food, go to the Bugis outlet. Quite worth it with the Beyond 1-for-1 deal for the amount of meat you get. We ordered takeaway from here and the process was fairly easy. I submitted my orders to their WhatsApp and picked it up on time - it was good they punctually ensured that the food was ready for pick up.

PSA on their T&Cs!! Visited the Bugis outlet before and had a wonderful experience there! However, for this Serangoon outlet, note that in order to use a Burpple deal here, you need to spend an additional $10. And that would be $20 if you want to use two deals. In addition, for the Tapas deal, it needs to be the same dish. Food was great albeit the slow serving time (even though it wasn’t too crowded when we went). They also have mala/hotpot here!! Service... was disappointing though :’(

Sweet Potato Really happy whenever I see this sweet ptt bun/bread appear magically at home - truly one of life’s simple pleasures 🤩 I love how the sweet ptt just tastes so natural within the bread, without being too cloying (even though it’s carbs on carbs 🤪) If you haven’t tried this yet, just imagine having a warm fluffy pau with coarsely mashed purple sweet ptt (✨texture✨) on a rainy day.... 💯 Pls do get this and the yam one whenever you can + always warm it up before eating for max happiness!!! 🤪🤟 Pro tip: if you’re really lazy to steam paus, just spritz a teeny bit of water on the pau surface & pop it in the microwave for 30-45s (dep on the settings!) & voila!!! 🤟🤩

Steamed Fish with Lemon Garlic Sauce Gotten the seabass and super love the spicy taste of the soup, addictive as it is kept warm. The fish was fresh and lots of meat.

Stir-fried Ladies Finger If you are tired with the usual vegetables, grab the ladies finger. The one I gotten was cooked in Thai style. The only disappointment would be their ladies finger are old and hard to bite.

Tofu with Mango Salad For something refreshing, I would recommend you to get this. Topped with lots of mango salad and the tofu was fluffy and delicious.

Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee As the day turn dark, you would find people start gathering at front of this hawker centre. Most of them are standing there waiting for their order to be called from this stall. Only open at the later part of the day till night, this stall served one of the most popular fried Hokkien prawn mee in Ang Mo Kio. They fried their Hokkien prawn mee in batches, so you might need to wait longer to reach your turn. Almost 40 mins wait for me when I came on weekday night. But seriously the wait is so worth it, even with the smallest portion like mine. You definitely get the kick of the taste from the noodles, hidden with the ingredients such as the prawn.

Balanced We finally didn't have to queue as it's late at night. It had a good balance of everything lah, from wok hei to broth, so I can't fault it - although I just like my Hokkien mee wetter. Great chilli too.
