I decided to try another chicken rice store at the Toa Payoh Food Alley, this time going to Ping Wei Eatery house. The set that i got was their Single Person Set for $5.50, but because i added a braised egg the total became $6.20.

Chicken - The chicken was fair in standard. Not too dry and a decent amount for what I paid for. Nothing special but it's decent enough.

Rice & bean spouts- Rice wasn't overly dry though it wasn't very fragrant either. Bean sprouts were ordinary but a surprising amount was served. Just a pass for both.

Soup - I appreciate that the soup given wasn't the usual msg filled soup that you usually get. It was cabbage soup though it was still a bit bland.

All in all, I would come back again because even though the food was ordinary, i was really hungry and they served quite a large set meal! Come if you're feeling hungry and don't mind regular food!

Super Dream is a new take on the bubble tea craze. Instead of using regular ol' milk tea and pearls, Super Dream reinvents the wheel with yoghurt and purple rice.

This might sound like a weird combination, but once you take a gulp of the drink you'll understand what I mean by great. I got Vanilla Yoghurt with purple rice and the drink was refreshing and soft like a smoothie. The tanginess of yoghurt together with the chewy texture (akin to mochi) of purple rice was divine. My only small gripe would be that the drink cost a pretty penny of $3.90 but that won't stop me from getting my new favourite drink!

Note: This Super Dream is from their toa payoh outlet but I've been told it is moving to Chinatown. They also have a Bugis outlet so do go there if you want to give it a try!

Since time immemorial people have fought; World War 1, World War 2, North Korea vs South Korea... some have concluded while others rage on till this very day. But there is one conflict that has stood the test of time, KOI vs Gong Cha.

Like many people out there in Singapore I take my bubble tea seriously and have been a die hard fan of Gong Cha since day 1. You could imagine the heartbreak when Gong Cha left the market some time last year. There was a milk tea void which couldn't be filled in me and though I occasionally dabbled in other franchises like Koi and LiHo, it just wasn't the same.

But Gong Cha is back in SG again and they are better than ever. Although the prices have increased for most drinks (20 cent increase minimum) it's still quite affordable where a normal medium milk tea costs about $2.80 where it previously was $2.60. My personal favourite is the Oolong Milk Tea at 30% sugar because it doesn't taste overly milky while still having some sweetness too it without it being overwhelming!

Hiang Ji Roasted Meat & Noodle House is located at Toa Payoh's food alley. It is fairly popular during lunch time so I thought why not give it a try? Unfortunately, the prices are quite expensive and you can expect to pay $5 - $7 for a normal plate of Soya Sauce Chicken rice or noodles depending on whether you add meat.

I ordered the Soya Sauce Chicken noodles with added meat (which comes with complimentary soup) for a total of $7. It was quite pricey and the meat wasn't all that great. Although at first glance it may look like a lot of meat, they end up giving you slices with more bone than meat on it. Noodles were springy and the added chilli was flavorful which was a slight plus!

Their particular saving grace is their Chicken Rice Chilli which is extremely aromatic and zesty. The chilli itself isn't overly spicy and the extra sourness really enhances the flavour. Would come back just to eat the chilli again but everything else is really a miss for me, you can definitely get better chicken noodles at a cheaper price :(

I'm a lover of all Japanese foods, but I've always had a particular soft spot for Salmon Dons! This picture was taken on my third visit to Jin Fine Dining so you can be sure that the food will keep you coming back for more!

Due to a 50% discount, courtesy of the eatigo app, I gave Jin Fine Dining a try on a sunday morning! I ordered their triple salmon don which came with three types of salmon, salmon sashimi, aburi salmon and minced spicy salmon chunks. Each don also comes with a side of miso soup and the don contains tamago and cucumber slices as well.

The salmon sashimi was incredibly fresh and the slices were definitely thick enough to soothe the hearts of even the stingiest of money misers. The mentaiko aburi salmon could've been torched a bit more but it was tasty nonetheless.

For the minced spicy salmon chunks, I personally only found it normal the last time I ate it but nothing stellar. Perhaps the minced salmon had been cut too small but it was more personal than to do anything with the quality of the salmon! Thankfully, they allowed me to change the spicy salmon chunks to more aburi salmon so if you do not like anything in the bowl, you are free to change it to something else! Just ask nicely and you shall receive :) (Kudos to the staff for being so accommodating too)

Lastly, although it isn't shown in the photo, I ordered their Japanese Pitan Tofu. For those of you that aren't familiar with Japanese Pitan Tofu, it consists of tofu drizzled with mouth-watering Pitan sauce and fish roe! If you like Pitan Tofu, I highly recommend eating the dish when you're at Jin Fine Dining. It goes for a slightly pricy $7 but for lovers of Pitan Tofu, you won't regret it!
