Matcha Blueberry Donut Finally tried to get their donut so long 👀 bc I just passby food fair @ taka and also they got booth at there. I saw that they sell a variety of different flavour for donut but not much left as I went around after work. So my mum felt that their donut texture similar to bread texture but its slightly dry and a bit hard to cut thru. For matcha filling, I felt that it's not much bitter and blended towards sweet texture and a bit blueberry aftertaste.

Melbourne cookie - Looked similar to the ones from Folks and Stories, chewy and chunky! - Roasted hazelnuts gave a crunch to the ooey gooey texture with caramelised burnt honey in the cookie mix, with an acidic fruity undertone of dark chocolate. - Loved how full-bodied it was ✨

Chocolate hazelnut passionfruit lava tart - Wasn’t as oozy as I’d expected but the sweet chocolate was well-balanced by citrusy passionfruit and nutty hazelnut praline at the bottom 🍫 - Hazelnut cookie shell was super buttery and the crisp crumbly texture contrasted well with the creamy filling!

Pain au Suisse Chocolate, Strawberry Shortcake Cruffin Would order every pain au suisse chocolate I see recently because I am a quite sucker for the fine threads that sings beauty! The ones I fancy are of course that explained as “plain croissant layered with another croissant with layers facing up” by Mr Holmes Bakehouse. While their rendition did do the bake justice I might have had a better one elsewhere 🫢 As for our chosen cruffin, it came a little dry even without reheating, which wasnt a significant problem with the generous amount of pleasantly sweet strawberry shortcake flavoured cream. Also whatever beans they were using, my hot long black was “worth every penny I paid”.

Key Lime Donut & Bourbon Caramel Pecan Sticky Bun Bourbon caramel pecan is an amazing flavour combination! Loved the dense consistency of the dough and it had the right amount of sweetness:) I wished they could have heated it up though Was looking forward to the key lime donut the most but the filling was too sour 😞 the donut wasn’t as doughy as i would have liked and the sugar coat was a bit much for me

Black Sesame Cheong Fun Those who have seen my post on Chee Cheong Fun will likely have noticed how I have always seemed to have mentioned about a certain Rice & Roll — a stall that is located at the Food Loft coffeeshop at Blk 107 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 which is just a stone’s throw away from Mayflower MRT Station. The same coffeeshop is also now home to a new outlet of Chef Kin HK Wanton Noodle as well, which has been seemingly been rather aggressive in its expansion plans lately. Created as a limited time-only special, the Black Sesame Cheong Fun features black sesame powder, and comes drenched with a house-made sweet ginger syrup over the top; a rather interesting sweet rendition instead of the savoury ones that we are familiar with when it comes to Cheong Fun. Available till the end of the year or till once it has been sold out, these rolls are pretty much the same in terms of texture and consistency as the ones I previously had when they have first opened; there is this qq texture to their rice rolls with an evident rice-y note lingering around — the rolls smooth and silken, and carried a slightly wrinkled aesthetic that seems to be typical of stone-milled Chee Cheong Fun as we come to know these days. Here, the roasty black sesame is especially evident; yet not heavy enough to cause a scratchy throat — but what is especially wonderful is that house-made ginger syrup that seems to have incorporated the use of Japanese brown sugar(?). The strong earthy note with a controlled level of sweetness is especially enticing with the gingery finish at the end — so good on its own, and also replicates that of the Tang Yuan that we enjoy during winter solstice; the same exact item that this item takes inspiration from. It is interesting to see how Rice & Roll has managed to think out of the box with their limited time-only special; a very incentive approach to the Chee Cheong Fun that we have been all too familiar with. With the Thomson-East Coast Line now open, it certainly is more convenient to get here; looking forward to hopefully more releases such as these in the future!

Scallop Chee Cheong Fun Came across this fairly new Chee Cheong Fun stall within the Foodloft coffeeshop at the void deck of 107 Ang Mo Kio 4 on social media recently — the stall seemingly prides itself over their rice slurry to be used with their Chee Cheong Fun which is made in-house by grinding the rice grains with a stone mill; videos of which can be found on their Instagram account @ricenrollsg, which I thought was pretty interesting to check out. To be really frank, my idea of the ideal Chee Cheong Fun has been relatively simple in the past; as long as it is smooth and silken without being too thick, I would be relatively satisfied. But truth to be told, the Scallop Chee Cheong Fun was ready to up the game here; it’s always in the details, some would say. For one, I really dig how the Chee Cheong Fun here comes with diced fresh scallops; they were incredibly fresh, bouncy and comes with a slight natural sweetness, but the Chee Cheong Fun itself was out to impress — never actually quite had a Chee Cheong Fun that is quite as chewy, yet doesn’t stick to the teeth. It’s smooth and silken no doubt, but there is quite a tactile bite without it actually feeling particularly thick – something that I absolutely dig for the rendition here. The soy sauce here isn’t quite up to my taste buds though; felt like a more savoury version of the typical soy sauce used for HK-style Chee Cheong Fun — also did away with the sweetness whilst at that, though the chili sauce did carry an intriguing smokiness amidst the usual savoury notes — the spiciness being rather mild and pretty manageable for most. Its location feels relatively hidden for now but the coffeeshop is situated in a HDB block just next to one of the exits for the new Mayflower MRT Station along the Thomson-East Coast Line (glad how they are relatively nearby to my place by train). There are many places that actually serve Chee Cheong Fun around, but their version is something I have yet to experience until now — a hidden gem that is worth checking out if Chee Cheong Fun is totally your jam!

Basque burnt 9nett Must try Molten even when cold, the creaminess and flavour were both good. Rightly, the cheese wasn't too sweet, and they balance it out with a glaze on top. Textbook apart from the glaze, which puts them over the top. The best I've had in recent memory Location ulu tho, abit painful to walk under the sun at noon

Torta della nonna - Lots of pine nuts on top and within! - Taste was light with a prominent vanilla bean flavour, reminding me of a nougat which I enjoyed though it became a little one-dimensional after awhile. - Ricotta provided a mild milkiness, filling had a densely thick texture. - Crust was buttery sweet with a crumbly, biscuit-like bite similar to shortbread 🥧

May Weekend Special - Flourless Chocolate Lime Cake My Sunday got significantly better with Mother Dough’s May weekend special! Their Flourless Chocolate Lime Cake ($8) with a side of cream was very nicely done as well. The subtle zing from the addition of lime-infused cream was wonderfully refreshing and texture-wise was surprisingly airy. Fudgy and moist, the slice was not overly rich or cloying but best shared in my opinion as it was pretty chocolatey. 

May Weekend Special - Strawberry Rhubarb Morning Bun My Sunday got significantly better with Mother Dough’s May weekend special! Going straight for their Strawberry Rhubarb Morning Bun ($9), the crisp-flakey danish was so good. Filled with sweet-tangy Strawberry Rhubarb Jam, the pastry had a lovely Vanilla Custard hidden near the base - love the contrasting soft curd-like bites. The crunchy Pistachio Crumble was also very fragrant and nutty. Crowned with a soft Torched Cream Meringue, the buttery bake was simply yummy and superbly textured~

Matcha Cheese Tart Matcha Cheese Tart ($8.50) really strong bitter taste but slightly creamy and milky for cheese base. But their tart base was quite crunchy and easier to cut it off.

Pain Au Chocolat Since I love chocolate, why not grab of this as well. Expecting a soft texture with chocolate filling inside.

Croissant Croissant is usually always on my bucket list to any pastries shop. Their’s of course remain what you could expected, soft and crunchy skin.

Pandan cruffin like a fully bloomed lily Too pretty to eat it for sure, and it remains v crispy as we slice into it. The pandan looks a little too green but we enjoy it and it tastes authentic. (~$5)

Christmas Special Pastry Got their Christmas special which I think is their pain au chocolat with extra chocolate on top and some marshmallows. Taste is not bad, can give it a try!

☕️ Wanted to rest my legs for a bit and grab a quick drink. This was one of the cafes in the area that was still open at 5pm. The cafe is small but the seats are spaced apart nicely. The coffee I had was strong and gave the boost I needed.

Haven Coffee Very cozy & quiet place To sit down & have a cup of coffee & catch up with friends. The service staff was also friendly & helpful 💯

Blueberry latte Made with real blueberries and caffeine free, Haven coffee offers a wide variety of non caffeinated options for non coffee drinkers and kids. I enjoyed munching the blueberries and the creaminess/sweetness of the milk. It does reminds me of the blueberry ice cream from Andersen's of Denmark.

Hokkaido Latte ($2.70) I bought original pricing as I didn't wanted to wait until the deal start. :") so I felt that the drink less milk but more coffee taste contain.

Hokkaido Milk Coffee ($1) (up : $2.70) I didn't expected that they releases canned version for drink but I didn't have no time to go their cafe at jurong area. But the drink was slightly milky and less coffee taste (not that strong). I wish that I got time to head to suzuki cafe 🫡

Not bad croissant Tiramisu croissant @ $4.80 Have always been getting their almond croissant and decided to get out of the comfort zone for once. It's not bad and the cream inside seems to be coffee flavour? But the price is quite steep so might not get this so regularly. Or only get it when they have the 3 for $10 promotion.

Yummy Bread Almond croissant @ $3.80 Generous amount of almond makes me happy and what's even better is that there's a pleasant surprise of cream inside the croissant. A tad expensive but worth a try.
