Pince & Pints (Duxton) Truffle Lobster Roll, as the name goes if you love truffle please try this! The sauce was so on point and complemented everything. Price is on the high side but it’s a lovely place for anniversaries or gatherings.

Chirashi Don What’s your favourite sashimi? Mine is swordfish. Unfortunately for me, there is no swordfish in there 😂 Still a decent bowl of chirashi though. Chikuwatei’s chirashi includes yellowtail, unagi, sweet prawn, tuna, scallop, salmon, ikura, tobiko & tamago. Despite being around for awhile and one of the chirashi found in many listicles, it took me until now to finally give this a try. I actually went to Manzoku first, which is also under The Yoi Group but they seem to be temporarily closed due to COVID-19 and the notice on the shop front redirected me to Chikuwai Tei. Salmon Aburi Mentai Maki + Soft-shell Crab The makis here are pretty huge per piece and delicious too. Perfect aburi salmon w mentai mayo with generous chunks of crispy soft-shell crab. The rainbow maki paled in comparison, just order this!

Unagi Nigiri This place might be famous for their chirashi but their unagi is equally good! Don’t give this a miss if you’re a fan of unagi.

Rice with Basil Leaves Minced Pork & Egg They has been operating this Thai restaurant since 2006, serving authentic Thai foods in this neighbourhood. Their rice with basil leaves minced pork & egg really came in big portion. Lots of minced pork and do expect some spicy taste with all the chilli.

Stuffed Chicken Wings The stuffed chicken wings from @joeskitchen.sg is my must-order dish whenever we ate there. It is amazing how much minced pork, chestnut bits and corn is stuffed into each chicken wing and fried to golden brown perfection. We are not big fans of pad thai which is rather lackluster and their green curry chicken can be rather hit and miss. However, their deep fried garlic pork was simply superb though. Each piece of pork was crispy and juicy and you can't go wrong with fried garlic bits. The prices are on the steep side for a neighborhood eatery so try exercising self-control and don't overorder k!

One for one pasta Tried the mentaiko salmon carbonara with ebiko Love this pasta! The mentaiko and carbonara combination always work It feels a little Jelat but disappears so quickly when it’s shared. Tried their coffees as well — like the dirty sesame and iced latte. Spent around $80 for two sandwiches and two pasta (2 one for one deals) and 4 drinks so a great meal!

Chicken parmigiana One for one pasta — the portion is great. The taste is pretty average but the portion does make up for it.

Chicken schnitzel and cubano Chicken schnitzel and cubano: Such a good portion and cool plating. The sandwiches are great — portions are great and the sourdough base is soft.

Beef Bourgignon Beef & duck combo. Who would have thought these two could taste good together but they do!

For Watermelon Sashimi & Chili Crabs On Skewers Whoever said healthy food is tasteless is wrong! Start off your meal with the Watermelon Sashimi, sounds weird but quite tasty. Unlike elsewhere where eating crabs means making a huge mess, go for their Chili Crabs with Ketupat wrapped on skewers - super yummy and fuss free. For those avocado lovers out there, finish off with the Avo-Choco Emotion. Onaka offers a 3 course set lunch for only $18. Where else can you find gourmet food at this price?

Alaska Snow Crab & Sea Urchin Noodles Crab meat was really sweet and noodles topped with a really tasty sauce. Sea Urchin sauce? Perhaps?

BBQ Beef Grilled Cheese Sandwich Portion was huge and the entire sandwich was oozing with the beef brisket and cheese! Think they used like 3 different types of cheese but with the flavour from the beef brisket, it really wasn’t overwhelming at all. It comes with real hot soup in a mug (cute!). We got the mushroom soup which was also really nice and full of flavour - kinda feels like it just warms your soul?

Good Ol’ Eggs Benny Had the eggs benedict with stewed spinach! My eggs were perfectly poached and runny and the hollandaise sauce was yumz but tbh I’d skip the spinach - felt like it was unseasoned and it didn’t really work with the whole dish. Oh but I really really like the roasted potatoes!

Salted Egg Prawn Eggs Benedict This dish (as well as the other dishes) is pretty unique. I mean, it's not everyday you see a creamy version of salted egg mixed with hollandaise sauce. The bread is soft and nice, eggs poached well, i'm just wondering why they used prawn, of all meats. Also the kale didn't seem to complement the other ingredients. But overall it was a satisfying meal (the salted egg is worth a try), and I liked how the portions are not too big and doesn't leave you with a jelak feeling. Best part is that the prices are cheap (for cafe food), the place is spacious and empty (good for catchups) and there are power points for you to charge your devices~

Looks Decent, Taste Disappointing I must say the prices are cheaper than your regular brunch places because they do not charge GST and service charge. However...this place did not impress. My review: Tom Yum Creamy Prawns Pasta - 7/10. Tad bit creamy. But overall taste is quite nice. Best to share to avoid “gerlat-ness” Roast Beef - 5.5/10 I was eating beef jerky. Seriously. No further comments. (And chickpeas seriously? Hahaha)

Eggs Benedict - Salted Egg Yolk Prawn And Salmon Eggs benny can’t go wrong (if you stick with the classic) - the smoked salmon version was pretty good! Serving is just nice and unlikely to hit you with a food coma after your meal. The “salted egg yolk w prawn” was too Asian for my liking. Prefer the authentic tzechar version of salted eggs prawns fried to perfection instead of a salted eggs infused “hollandaise” sauce layered as a cream over prawns which are separately cooked (ie. not infused and coated w the salted eggy unless you dip it into the hollandaise). Worth a try for all salty eggy fans tho! But definitely not if you’re really craving for the real deal!

Salted Egg Yolk Cuttlefish Looks good but taste nothing like salted egg yolk. Lousy dish bleugh!

For Authentic KL Hokkien Mee Some say this is the best KL Hokkien Mee in SG, with thicker noodles and crunchy bits of lard. KL Hokkein Mee: Found! I've been hankering for authentic KL hokkein mee since that one fateful night in subang jaya when I was introduced to it. This is a pretty good rendition with plenty of wok hei, thick sticky black sauce that's not too sweet, lotsa pork lard and noodles fried just right (eh, guess al dente's not quite the right word). The other supposedly must-try dish, sang har meen, was just ok. 3.5 nombles.

Perfect for rainy days! Chilly weather warranted warm comforting meals and that's how we found ourselves at Ah Chiang's Porridge, a street corner establishment in the cosy Tiong Bahru neighbourhood. Slightly surreal to see Teslas and Porsches and whatnot parked by a porridge store but they made for good scenery. Had the Mixed Pork Porridge ($4.50), Century Egg Sliced Pork Porridge ($5.50), Sambal Kangkong ($10), and a Soybean drink - total came up to $25.20. The porridge was oh so smooth and comfortingly delicious. Liver was the standout here, perfectly cooked with a soft and almost bouncy texture. Kangkong might seem pricey but portion was huge, enough for at least 3. Will return to eat more of the liver!

Sliced pork porridge Decent porridge but would prefer them not to pour the soy sauce into the porridge. They also serve deep fried wantons for $8 which I find it’s quite pricey.

Minced Meat Porridge Ah Chiang’s Porridge might be tucked at one corner and seemed to be moving kind of slowly here, but it was also at such a relaxed pace to feel the weekend vibes. The Minced Meat Porridge (S$4.50) was, indeed, simple. Though it might not be easy to notice traces of the minced meat, I was still drawn to the smoothness of the congee and its light flavours. For more variety to the meal, one could simply order some vegetables or fried tofu to supplement the congee.

Tao Hui Break Yong He is one of the better tao hui I had. The soya bean drink was fairly thick and tasted more like beancurd than those I drink regularly at hawker centres nearby. Tao hui was rather filling. Thick texture. I actually like the beancurd drink more than then the beancurd. You tiao was hot & crispy

Taiwanese Snack The saltish beancurd is like a savoury version of a classic beancurd without the syrup but topped with bits of stewed minced pork, preserved vegetables and spring onions in a soya sauce mix. Although it may seem weird, it did not taste as bad as I thought and instead turned out quite appetising. The texture of the toasted bun with pork floss and egg (烧饼) was fluffy and doughy which makes it quite filling when added with egg and savoury pork floss. The 烧饼 was served warm with a comforting and chewy bite. I also added a cup of soya milk but it somehow fell short of expectations. It was not thick in texture and almost tasteless. Yong He is a place to check out for late-night snacks but I will not purposely make a trip back unless I am nearby and have no other places to go. Braised Pork Rice ($4) This is as unappetising as it looks. The meat was too mashed up and there wasn't much taste of any spices. Definitely not something that we'll recommend.
