Today, we visited Sengkang Kopitiam Square to eat Sergeant Kiang's chicken rice. He was the pioneer batch of chefs that started the legendary Chatter Box chicken rice at Mandarin Hotel from 1971, and subsequently opened Sergeant Chicken at Rasa Singapura and Jiang Ji Chicken Rice. Even though some of his ventures did not materialize, I am glad that they now have 15 outlets in Kopitiam serving HALAL-CERTIFIED chicken rice, all rebranded under the name Chicky Fun. Everything is cooked on location, chicken is not too oily yet tasty (if you have the chance, watch how his son debone the chicken). Solid chilli sauce, no white vinegar, just lime, garlic, ginger and chilli! Thank you Uncle Bob for arranging the meal!

Our “go to” place when we need a satay fix. Spy Tip: Order the beef satay! It’s the best of the lot. Chicken is only meh. Remember to ask for more gravy.

Mee Rebus $3 Oh mee rebus, we meet again. My annual pilgrimage to Bedok Camp for IPPT may be an arduous experience, but the reward at the end is made all the more sweeter knowing that a piping hot plate of noodles in gravy awaits me like a pot of saucy gold at the other side of the 2.4km rainbow. The slurp-worthy sauce is not overly gloopy or starchy, and has a runnier consistency than most, which is just the way I like it. Subtly sweet and spicy, brimming with flavour and hiding the occasional soft peanut, the gravy clings well to the yellow noodles, but you'll find yourself drinking it straight from the spoon more often than not. Pro-tip: add on a begedil for 60 cents. It may not be homemade, but they coat the patty in egg before deep-frying it. Mutton Satay! The mutton was certainly flavourful with the marination of spices. But I thought it was a tad too sweet and slightly tough as there were no fats in between the chunks of meat.

Nasi Lemak 2 queues here..left for the noodles, right for the nasi...enjoyed the chicken wings and sambal chilli

Sambal Still Shiok Decided to give this a shot again, and this time the chicken wings were ready. I must say it looked quite dry but the chicken was quite nicely fried, didn’t taste dry at all. Sambal was still shiok and they were quite generous with it. I like the Sambal goreng, the fermented beans was not easy to chew, unlike many other stalls that have it too hard. I will be back to try the otah!

Shiok Chilli What do you look for in a Nasi Lemak? If chilli, Latiffa Huri hits the right spot. The Ikan kuning was quite nicely fried and did not taste dry. I felt that rice could do with a stronger coconut taste but overall, still a good and very reasonably priced Nasi Lemak. My mom really enjoyed the lontong which had a generous amount of rice cakes! Paid slightly more than 5 bucks for these two plates. I totally forgot to add the Otah in my hastiness to eat breakfast and the chicken wings were not ready at 8am. Will return again to try those.

Nasi Padang Although they are located at a much hidden corner on level 2 of Lucky Plaza, you would still seeing the regulars start coming in as they open the shop. One of the popular Indonesian restaurants in Lucky Plaza for their authentic Nasi Padang. You can’t go wrong with the dishes offered here. Some of the recommendations include their beef rendang and duan singkong. The beef rendang was a bit dry but remain it’s tenderness.

Authentic Nasi Padang Their standard is still the same 😊. The beef rendang is the must order!!

Rendang Chicken This rendang chicken is authentically Indonesian. The rendang is so different from ours. It's both spicy and sweet almost like satay sauce. Must try.

Linguine Pescatora | $28.90++ Fresh Buchot mussels, little neck clams, medley of seafood in light tomato sauce. Find that the pasta portion was little in comparison to its price. However the seafood portion was just right. Pasta was al dente but its price probably makes me think twice of returning. Nonetheless, a very homely vibe which I enjoyed.

Cannoli For desserts, we ordered a dessert platter which came with homemade Sicilian cannoli shells filled with mascarpone-ricotta cheese and rolled in pistachio and vanilla ice cream. I don’t have a sweet tooth but this is so delicious!

La Barca Funghi E Tartufo We also ordered a pizza to share and we picked La Barca Funghi E Tartufo ($28.90). When you cut into the pizza, a decadent mixture of truffle pate, mozzarella, smoked scamorza cheese and button mushrooms oozes right out from the middle and it goes really well with the soft and chewy pizza crust.

Curry Laksa Wasn't expecting this to turn out to be one of the best laksa I ever had. But wow. Begitu sedap!!😋👍🏼Super satisfying portion too😍 - 2 huge tiger prawns, generous chunks of chicken meat, brinjals & tau pok. I might or might not have been grinning from ear to ear after my meal🙂🙃🙂🙂

This is one of Singapore's favourite #breakfast, #NasiLemak. Worth Every Penny The prices are affordable and its worth every penny. This super delicious and highly recommended chicken lemongrass for $7.50 also bought the Phô 4A that consist of half-cooked steak,well done brisket, flank&meatballs for only $10 and the meat was super soft that it melts instantly in your mouth.

Pho 4A (Pho w the lot) Not sure why Burpple listed this viet restaurant as 'one of the best viet' places in Sg. It was not authentic at all. The place was run by indians (chefs and all). Ordered a beef pho, fried spring rolls and a longan drink. The pho skimped on beef slices and noodles. Soup just tasted like msg and water so i bloated severely afterwards. Spring rolls were stale. No crunch; skin was just chewy. Drink was refreshing though. Pls note cash payment only. Don't end up like me who had to trek 15mins to the nearest POSB ATM and then 15mins back to the restaurant because I was short $4. Don't waste your time coming here Pho Enthusiasts!

For a Simple Night Out Not many places get pho right, but as Pho 4 All focuses their efforts on perfecting it, you can count on them to get your pho fix. For $10, you get a bowl of flat rice noodles in a light flavourful broth, topped with tender slices of beef (or flank and beef balls if you wish).
