Not an avid fan of frozen yogurt, but this froyo that came with twin flavors of the original and matcha captured my heart with its distinct flavors!
Huge chunks of char siew along with thick bee hoon was what Hong kongers usually eat in their restaurants. The char siews were juicy and tender and were in large chunks that were very different from Singapore's way of preparation. The Vermicilli was okay but I don't mind eating the char siew again!
Heard from a Tastemaker that Hong Kong was filled with secret cafes hidden in the upper floors of the old buildings in the streets and decided to try it out for myself. Found a cat themed cafe I had 3 cats sitting next to me while I consumed my dinner! The food was decent but it had a minimal spending of 100HKD per person!
Craft beers from $10 or above, I ordered this $14 "watermelon" beer which had a rather uncomfortable after taste. They also have a wasabi flavored one which I didn't enjoy (these are all personal opinions). Surprisingly I enjoyed the "f*cking hell" German lager beer which had a really smooth aftertaste that I found enjoyable! PS: the staff/boss was a really cool guy, the cashier gave a wrong and extra change, my friend who returned the extra cash was rewarded for his honesty with an extra pint of Asahi 😁
Homemade buns. 140g beef patty made from three parts of the cow for flavour and texture. Cheese. Bacon. Pretty good, though if the patty was better bound and less "crumbly", it'd be even better.
Sawadee Thai Cuisine has been around in Singapore for 15 years, can't believe that we just discovered this gem here. Better late than never krap, this is Thai-style otah in case you're wondering.
On a Thai dessert photo streak, Mango sticky rice from dinner last week at Sawadee Thai Cuisine. The glutinous rice and mango stood out with its sweetness, you can have it on its own without the coconut milk. Kudos to the kitchen team for the lovely dessert presentation.
I know thai food is about heavy flavors. The sugar added is too much that you just avoid having the curry on your rice. Everything must be in moderation.
This huge fluffy ball on a stick will definitely catch your eye when you're there. An unorthodox combination of three layers of pancakes, hugging a small pork ball put through the skewer right in the centre. The intended sweet and savory combination had the former taste overwhelming the entire snack. It's THREE LAYERS OF PANCAKE after all!
Try for novelty's sake if you're there, but you HAVE to get the pork and chicken skewers with thai sauce from here!
How is that possible?! Check out my review of Thai Boat Noodle at Bedok Point on explodingbelly.com!
Think its high time that the word on Whale & Cloud can be spread as it is getting more known. Located at the back alley of Niven Road, Whale & Cloud is a place meant for those who are in for some quiet. The operation hours are haphazard, for the owners all have day jobs and operating this cafe as a side thing. They source their beans from all over the world that are a rare find in cafes locally, and the coffee is charged on tip basis. Cakes are also available, but often sold out early so do make your way earlier if you are keen to try them. This is a spot for some quiet chill, but may it remain that way in time to come ...
