MALA RAMEN! 👍One of the best MazeSoba I had and at just $12.90‼️ … I love that it’s super loaded with different textures from chewy noodles, crispy scallots, runny egg, minced meat, crunchy spring onions - mixed them all together it’s just slurpy delight of flavors + hint of mala spicy!✨don’t worry not too spicy at all just nice👍 … If you want something soupy, can go for Mala Tonkotsu Ramen which comes with sliced tonkotsu pork and favorite ramen egg! the broth is light which i prefer, not too heavy with mala flavor but still drinkable✨ … Lastly pair them with Mala Chicken and Mala Gyoza which is super spicy compared to the noodle dishes😂 like legit will numb and 💯shiok! … catch them while it’s available!

Cook of their dishes are good! Kanada-Ya recently released their Mala series, which includes soup ramen, Mazesoba as well as some side dishes. We tried many of them and they were delicious ~~ The Mala Tonkotsu Ramen ($16.90) was indeed quite spicy, with much of the spice kicking in at the back of your throat. The pork broth itself was very lovely, with deep pork bone flavours almost shouting in your face. Noodles were alright, thought I wish they could be more al dente. Do note that it tastes more like spicy tonkotsu than mala! Definitely a decent ramen to get for spicy lovers. I actually love their Mala Mazesoba ($12.90) more, as the mala flavours are more pronounced. The noodles are much chewier here and umami flavours from the meat were strong too! Definitely a spicy bowl but will be addictive to some! Everyone, we have come to the best item we had ordered, which is their Mala Fried Chicken ($8.90). This came in huge chunks, and they were so tender and juicy. Fat from the chicken almost dripped down as I bit into it! It was well seasoned all the way through the chicken meat and the mala paste did well in enhancing the flavours more. Honestly I'm not a big spicy eater, but the normal variations of their dishes are good. Definitely coming back for their non spicy variations for my ramen fix! Ayam penyet 🍗 $6.50 Ayam penyet fried to perfection. Chicken is soft and tender and skin is crispy. Self service crispy bits were so good, I wish I took more 🤣 chilli acts a kick as well. V satisfying meal

Chicken Rice ($5) I have missed Aspirasi! Used to have this few times a month when I was still staying in Hougang (and had to take Harbourfront MRT every night 💤) Serving is still generous, and the grease is still how I remember it 😂 sambal has a slight nice kick (not too spicy). Sambal Chicken Rice Still the king. Every component was good. The chilli was spicier than I remember but that's not a problem. I wish I spammed the self-service crumbs!

Soy Sauce Chicken (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) New year, old favourites at Chinatown Complex Food Center! Ma Li Ya Virgin Chicken 瑪莉亞處女雞⁣ remains one of my favourite soy sauce chicken stalls in Chinatown, and I personally rate it slightly higher than a certain former Michelin Bib Gourmand stall within the same hawker centre. 🐔 The meat under the glistening soya-sauce glazed skin is firmer than those from other stalls but it remains juicy & tender, and a subtle rose wine aroma permeates through each bite. The only gripe I have is that the rice can be served warmer, though I can look past it because of how good the chicken was. Highly recommend trying their braised tofu at $1.60 apiece before they are sold out for the day! Soaked in the same braising sauce as the chicken, the silky soft tofu melts in the mouth like a pudding!

Soya Sauce Chicken Been meaning to try this stall where Hawker Chan purportedly learnt how to cook his Michelin soya sauce chicken. But business is apparently good because several times they were closed when I came just after lunch. Ordered half a “virgin chicken”, a serving of braised pork belly and a plate of chicken rice. Now we are know that we no longer have fresh boiler chicken from Malaysia, only kampung chicken. Yet Maria’s soya chicken is thrill be best I have tasted since the ban on exports to Singapore. The rice which came drizzled with soya sauce, was fragrant and fluffy. It goes well with the piquant chilli sauce. The braised pork was just normal and a tad on the greasy side. Can’t wait to come back and try again once fresh chicken import resumes, with noodles.

Congee in the City Congee-centric restaurant located on the third floor of Shaw Centre. Service is bright, full of smiles, and efficient. Tables were slightly too close for comfort, and my partner was bothered by some (water?) stains on the cushioned sofa seats. Food-wise, the Pork Meatballs Congee ($10.90) came piping hot and satisfyingly thick. Elevate the taste with the light sauce and white pepper provided on each table, or choose to upgrade to a set (+$5) for a stick of youtiao, half a century egg, and a drink of your choice to complement the congee. I especially liked the youtiao for being not too oily. However, if I had to choose a favourite from my meal, it would definitely be the Golden Crispy Prawn Cake ($13.90) - so flavourful, juicy, with distinct chunks of prawn, and a delightful crunch from the cubes of water chestnut within. Delicious! If I were to share any complaint, it would be that the prices lean toward the steeper side, with this entire meal costing us almost $36 which would be outrageous if the food wasn't this satisfying. However, restaurants specialising in congee are a dime a dozen in the Orchard area so do pop by for a try!

One Last Hurrah Before Moving To A New Home Artichoke will be moving into a new home soon, and the last day of operations in the current Middle Road restaurant will be on 22 March. If you have a reservation from now till then, good on you! If not, shame on you but they will continue slaying with the New Bahru community from May. Green Harissa Prawns And at the mention of their bread ($4.80/ Bag of Bread), the Green Harissa Prawns ($38) were wonderfully seasoned. That tantalising green harissa enriched sauce/oil with split cream and burnt onions packed a nice heated punch so you would really need that extra warm dough to wipe it all up~ The prawns are also plump and sweet.

Mezze Platter As good as I remembered them to be, Artichoke’s hummus is a must so I got their Mezze Platter ($28) for lunch. Plated with miso hummus with pomegranate, beetroot hummus with sesame seeds, Greek chickpea salad, refreshing greens, tangy pickles and bread; the 3 mezzes of the day were great to share for two. Smooth and creamy, the savoury miso hummus was bomb diggity but the vibrant beetroot dip was an absolute delight - both perfectly moreish and bangin’ when paired with their pillowy-doughy bread.

Avobaco ($17.50) MAPLE BACON, SMASHED AVO, SUNNY SIDE-UP, ROMAINE LETTUCE, ONIONS, TOMATOES, SMOKED GARLIC AIOLI & BALSAMICO I liked the combi of ingredients, smashed avo was v creamy, romaine/onions/tomatoes acted as a fresh element to help cut through the heavier flavours of the bacon and fried egg. The maple bacon was thicc and meaty, totally different from the thin sad strips of bacon that I had expected. It was still piping hot when served! Definitely a very hearty and stuffffed bagel. Found the bagel itself a little tough to chew, and it unfortunately got pretty soggy at the end, probably because of the aioli and balsamic and avo spread. Also it was a little senget, one half had too little bottom bagel so it got really messy, the other half had too much bottom bagel so it felt like too much bagel.

Grilled Cheese Patty Melt ($26) A really good cheeseburger - but in a sandwich! Why have burger buns when you can have grilled cheese sourdough? The Blackmore wagyu patty was juicy, very tasty with the pastrami jam, garlic aioli and cucumber pickles. Very classic cheeseburger ingredients and executed well in this sandwich. Overall a good sandwich, slightly pricey but it was delicious so I’ll take that. Visited on a public holiday and at 11am, their tater tots were already out of stock! This eliminated many of their breakfast options, sadly. Would return again earlier to try their other options.

Pastrami Reuben ($26) So glad my friend and I shared the sandwiches at this place, because they are really generous with the meat! The smoked pastrami brisket was just overflowing in between the slices of caraway rye sourdough toast, it wasn’t too salty on its own but the sheer amount of it in the sandwich made it quite so, along with the provolone cheese. Fortunately there was sauerkraut and Russian dressing to cut through the salty and savoury notes. Overall a very tasty sandwich, would recommend to share otherwise the pastrami brisket can get quite overwhelming. Slightly pricey for a sandwich, but the amount of meat and tastiness of the dish kinda makes up for its price. Visited on a public holiday and at 11am, their tater tots were already out of stock! FRIED HOKKIEN MEE WITH INTENSE WOK HEI 🔥 There are not many places left that still use charcoal to fry hokkien mee but one legendary place still does it the traditional way and that is none other than Swee Guan. Opens only in the evening till late, this is a fried hokkien mee institution. Though prices are not as wallet friendly, my medium sized plate costs $8, the flavour and quality that you are going to get more than makes up for it. The slightly wet consistency makes wonderful slurping actions and with each slurp you can taste the breath of the wok. The noodles come with sliced squid and fresh deshelled prawns but the star has got to be the noodles. You do not even need the citrusy of the lime as it is already very appetising and rich of seafood flavour.

炒福建麵 $8 Fried Hokkien Mee

Strong Wok Hei Hokkien Mee here is cooked in batches, u can't order until uncle cook finish the batch. Thus a queue starts to form up rather quickly on this weekday dinner night. The coffee shop here is rather old school. Hokkien mee only sold in medium($8) & Large($10). So it's more expensive than your average hokkien mee. They use to have the small $6 portion, but auntie said they don't sell small anymore. Wife took the medium portion and felt that its pretty less. Large portion was just right. Total 5 prawns. Very Strong wok hei, one of the better hokkien mee I had for quite some time. Prawns and squids were fresh. The chilli though, was quite a mismatch, it was sweet and the taste just doesn't go well with the wok hei hokkien mee. Nevertheless, still a solid plate of hokkien mee, i will return again for more.
